I spent a chunk of time looking for a hotel for two days for our extended family to stay before heading out on a cruise. I kept coming back to this one because of the reviews written in the last 6-8 months on Tripadvisor. I looked elsewhere as well.
I ended up emailing the hotel through their website and received emails back from the manager, Patsy, and her assistant manager. They offered me lower prices than I could find on any website.
There were two things that concerned me: 1) no free transportation to and from the airport or the cruise port, and 2) some of the reviews of the surrounding neighborhood. When I called and talked to Patsy, she informed me that they had just begun testing a van for transportation to and from the ports. It still wasn't free, but my transportation woes went out the window. (We ended up renting two vehicles for the 10 of us so it was a moot point). Although some of the neighborhood could raise concern, we never felt 'threatened' even though we walked down to the RiverFront for supper and shopping. (I will say that walking by the bus station did give the girls some willies).
As we entered the hotel for the first time, we were greeted by a very friendly staff not to mention the free coffee and cookies. The lobby area was attractively decorated. Upon checking in we found out that two of our three rooms were on the 8th floor and one was on the 4th floor. She asked if that would be OK and I expressed our desire to all be a bit closer together. She immediately found another room on the 8th floor for the third room. While it wasn't right next to the others, the floors aren't so huge that it was very far away. We were pleased. At check-in we also requested a roll-away which was delivered within 15 minutes. Smiles all around!
The rooms were clean and attractive. We had no broken, ripped, or peeling areas. the wireless Internet was great and there was also a network cable I plugged into my computer and it worked even better! While we had no problem with our room safe, one of the other rooms never did get theirs to work although they quit trying and put there stuff in our safe. The beds and pillows were very comfortable and we all slept well. I would have slept better the first night if my 14yo son wouldn't have hogged so much of the bed!!
The breakfast area was large and overlooked the pool. We had several hot items every day along with cold cereal, hot cereal, fruit and pastries. There were also hot drinks including coffee, hot chocolate, tea, as well as two kinds of cold milk. The breakfasts were included and quite good. There were plenty of free USA Todays to read while eating or you could watch a flat screen TV. I overheard some kids saying they had hooked their game machine into the flat screen TV in the dining area and played late at night.
I wouldn't hesitate recommending this hotel to anyone...especially if you want great service, room, and breakfast for a very reasonable price. The next time we go into Fort Lauderdale, I'll call and try to get into the Hampton Inn City Center hotel first!
I'll put in a quick plug for the Holiday Park Airboat rides and sport fishing with the Lady Pamela II crew. We did both and found them both to be excellent activities. The Everglades didn't look like we thought and our prize fish were ‘trophy’ Barracudas!! We also ate at Tarpon Bend and had excellent fish! It's just a few blocks from the hotel in the RiverFront.
