Recently returned from a wonderful stay at the Pillars. I usually stay at the Bentley Beach Hotel in South Beach but had trouble finding a room as some conference or the other had booked out all the good spots, so I opted for Ft. Lauderdale. Usually Ft. Laud. hotels are very standard, not nice at all, so I was sooooo... relieved when I arrived at the Pillars and felt like I had found what may very well be, one of the nicest hotels in all of Ft. Lauderdale. I have stayed in hotels across the world, some of the best, world renowned hotels, the W in New York, The 4 Seasons in Dublin-Ireland, Golden Eye in Jamaica, Las Ventanas in Cabo, the Metropolitan in London-UK just to name a few....each has its merits, some had lousy staff, but fantastic rooms, some had awful rooms but delicious food, others made up for the everything else that was lacking, just with the wonderful staff & service.

The Pillars' location is wonderful, you are minutes away from the beach (walking), and you can drive for 5-7mins to enjoy the boutiques and restaurants on Las Olas Blvd. I had a massage and a manicure & pedicure whilst there, which the hotel offers, though they don't actually have a spa, you have the services in your own room, or wherever you like, either by the pool or the pier overlooking the bay. You must request the services a day in advance. The hotel is just lovely and quaint. I do agree that the rooms are a bit small, but that should not discourage you, as they are beautifully furnished in the Tommy Bahama style, not over the top tropical, thank God. I also upgraded to a suite as my fiance was coming to meet me there, and they only had one suite available, as the rest were occupied, I think it was Rm 17. If that is all they have, then I suggest you pass, there isn't much difference from the standard room. BUT, if you do have other options (as we did a day later) then do book a suite (we had Rm 25) which is a nice size with the bedroom separated from the living room, two bathrooms (well needed, as the bathrooms are very small), and for added measure all couches in the suites have a sleeper couch (very convenient), a microwave, sink and a small fridge. All rooms have a mini bar.

Ok, so in off-season there isn't any real room service, just a continental breakfast and sandwiches offered during the day. I believe they also have a soup and a quiche and some salad selections available, which was fine for me. I usually had the fruit plate which was absolutely delicious and a good size, with a capuccino. However if you are one for a big breakfast there are loads of restaurants that the staff can recommend (the staff are all very helpful, in particular Tom or was it Ted?). Try 'the Floridian' diner on Las Olas Blvd. It looks dingy but the food is delish!!! There are also delivery services for a number of restaurants in the area, some fine dining, some burger and pizza, the hotel can provide suggestions and some menus...my point is, you have a choice.

Hotel Parking is absolutely free!!! A big plus for me. Just 23 rooms, so you won't ever feel like you are bombarded by a barage of guests. It is just very peaceful, I felt like I was in my own back yard, or a home away from home. The staff as I mentioned were very pleasant, that's an understatement! They were wonderful, EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM!! You may feel almost like you are alone there because there's no real front desk, just a small desk in a living room like/ lobby area, and there's hardly ever anyone sitting at the desk. But this is cool as there is a phone there with a notice that says you can dial them when needed and since the managers work with a cordless phone always attached to them, they are always just a call/ steps away (usually in the office just off the lobby). There's a library with great books (if you're a reader) and movies. All available for you to take to your room. And if you're a shopper, there are loads of shops, including Saks and Nieman Marcus only 5 minutes away (driving).

I left the pillars with really wonderful memories, and an overall feeling of peace and harmony, and I was there for work!!! I truly feel like I found a gem, a hidden treasure, and YES I WILL RETURN,.....FOREVER!!!

PS. To all the staff, the owners etc...Thank you soo much for going out of the way to find the car service to get us to the airport. For helping us with all our luggage and baby carriage and bags upon bags of things, for the crib in our room and for putting up with our countless requests always with a smile. We really really really appreciate it and most of all thankyou for the wonderful stay! See you all when next we return...With love, Rebecca and family.

Just returned from a 3 night stay at The Pillars and can’t say enough great things about the hotel and its wonderful staff. We went to the Pillars for our 10 year anniversary and wanted a romantic venue close to home. The Pillars is all that and more. We were in a King Poolside Superior room with close access to the dock. What a view from that dock. The mega yachts that pass by why you lounge on one of the chairs or sit around a table sipping a glass of wine are amazing. The room is spacious and decorated in a tropical motif. Even though, the bathroom in our room was small, it did not detract from the overall beauty of the room. We also enjoyed the complimentary lemonade and iced tea all day long poolside. There is a refrigerator in each room filled with sodas, drinks and snacks all at a reasonable price.

One of the greatest amenities is access to the city Waterbus (WaterTaxi). It is $10 all day and it takes you from the Riverfront area along 10 stops until it reaches its final destination of Shooter’s restaurant. The hotel stop is a whistle stop so you have to make sure to tell the captain that you want to stop at the Pillars. We did not drive all weekend because of this and that’s great because parking is expensive on Las Olas Blvd or Riverfront. The Waterbus captains’ also give you a great narration of all the million dollar homes on the water and their owners. This tour is especially romantic at night.

The staff at the hotel is the main reason why we already decided to go back. Thomas was just wonderful. His attention to your every need and knowledge of area attractions and restaurants is invaluable. He really makes your stay at the Pillars a 5-star experience.

Remember to visit the Floridian for a great breakfast, Casablanca’s for dinner and if you want a little relaxation 918 Day Spa. We can’t wait to go back!!!

If you are looking for a classy, refined small hotel with excellent service provided in an unpretentious, non-stuffy way, then this is the place for you. We had a superior poolside room which was tiny, dominated by a large, comfortable bed but with all amenities required. With table and chairs on the balcony it looked out on the pretty pool and beyond to the busy waterway. We had breakfast at the dockside watching the yachts go by and breakfast was perfect, beautifully served at whatever time suits you. The staff were friendly and effortlessly professional. The hotel is pretty, smartly furnished, small but a perfect treasure and perfect for couples, individuals or families with mature teens. Iced tea and water provided at the pool with towels, meals served in your room, on your balcony or by the dock, a relaxing, classy place. The beach is a stone's through away if you want the ocean to paddle in. If you love big, busy, bustling hotels and being fussed over, then this hotel is not for you. If you value quality, peace, and attentive service only when requested, you will love this gem.

Nice little place to stay for one or two night, room is small & services are very limited.

I will try something different for my next trip to Fort Lauderdael. Best Western Pelican Hotel right on the beach a little north of Sunrise Blvd., most of the room are ocean front plus a nice restaurant on the first floor.

My husband and I just got back from spending three nights at this hotel. We normally stay at the Hyatt Pierr 66, but I wanted to try something different for us. Overall, this place was wonderful. My only caveat would be that it is very quiet ...and that is not a bad thing if that is what you are searching for.

Our room was fairly small but it had, and I mean it, the BEST bed I have ever slept on. It was a contradiciton, in that it was very firm but felt like you were sinking into acres of down. I had been suffering from insomnia for a bit...and I slept like a baby here. (Speaking of babies...or kids in general...I don't think they would like it here nor would the parents feel comfortable).

We had a ground floor unit, and, like others have said, it was fairly small. BUT, it was exactly seven steps out of our room to "our" chairs by the pool. So we didnt have to drag everything we owned out to the pool area. If we forgot something, we just walked over and got it. The pool area itself is fairly small with a few sets of deck chairs set around. People would come out and sit for a bit and there was some quiet conversation but most of us were reading books or having a private massage outside.

There are some tables set out on the little dock area and every morning my husband and I would have a nice continental breakfast delivered out there to start our morning. It was wonderful.

When it was time for a little action, we waddled the two blocks to the main drag where there were some restraunts and enjoyed that a lot. In the morning, after we ate our breakfast, we headed this way too and took a couple mile saunter along the beach.

The water Taxi will stop at the dock at The Pillars, and we took that one night to Las Olas Blvd. for dinner. (That's the area that has many different eateries ) Just a warning here....it took over an hour for the boat to take us to our destination. (We figured a regular taxi would have taken about three minutes or so). However, it was a soft spring evening and the water Taxi driver told us a lot about some of the beautiful mansions we were passing, so we quite enjoyed it. Just keep the time in mind if you have dinner reservations.

We would highly recommend this place for the stressed out among you and those that want a little quiet romance. It is really a special oasis of tranqulity in this hectic world!
