Perfect location on the Intercoastal and close to beach. Good parking. Public areas are very nice and my room (I was upgraded to a suite) was spacious and comfortable. However, the shower, despite a big shower head, had almost no water pressure. I was assured that this was not a general problem for the hotel, but it certainly was for me. I missed a coffee maker in the room and the breakfast menu was less than impressive, so I chose a nearby coffee shop.

“very nice but over but way over priced”

The Pillars At New River Sound

we stayed at pillars 3 or maybe 4 times now. at first it was reasonable and then it started to get busy and noticed and the prices went thru the roof in in what i consider off season, we stayed in june one year and it was soo over priced. i agree with some reviewers that the rooms are a bit small and the bathroom could you some sprucing up. we stayed at the suite one time just to have a litle bit of room, i paid more for that then my honeymoon rooms,
the breakfast is nice and again way over priced,
a few years back their specials were good, but now their idea of a special is a little way off.

my over opinion is i really like it, but you pay for it, and the rooms are very small

i have stayed a quite a few boutique hotels and these rooms are the smallest.

but i would recommend if you have the money for no more than 2 to 3 nights

“Charming Boutique Hotel”

The Pillars At New River Sound

We were guests of the hotel for 3 days prior to a cruise of the Eastern Carribean which departed from Port Everglades.

This is a lovely boutique hotel and, while not luxurious, is a refined, understated, and tranquil experience.

Our room was located in the original plantation house and was quite small. It sufficed for our short stay, but had we needed to unpack for awhile it would have been inadequate.

Linens and bedding were very good. The towels were the best I've used in any hotel. Super! Toiletries were fine.

The room and particulalry the bathroom, however, was beginning to show signs of wear. There was some chipped paint and scratched furnishings: Nothing terrible but something that needs to be addressd given the hotel's standing as a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World group.

Staff and front desk personel were pleasant but not overly helpful. We sometimes had to wait for several minurtes for someone to appear at the desk as they seem to be doing double duty elsewhere.

The grounds are lovely and the waterside patio is quite beautiful. We enjoyed our breakfasts there, which although limited were nicely prepared and presented. The dinner menu looks nice aand we were sorry we didn't dine there.

On the whole, we loved our stay and would recommend the hotel to others with the suggestion to ask for a larger room.

“When is a hotel not a hotel?”

When is a hotel, not a hotel? When it's the Pillars. The accommodation is a small boutique hotel, based more on the Motel principal than the Hotel. The location, gardens and pool area are pretty faultless, in what used to be pretty much a waste ground for decent accommodation. The rooms themselves are nice enough, without being exceptional with virtually everything you'd expect from a hotel in this price bracket. You could argue that they could do with being updated, but that would be pretty churlish, as it all adds to the beach house charm of the place.

What sets this place apart though, is the service. All the staff we encountered were incredibly patient and friendly, amazing considering our party included one wheelchair bound, and one very unwell person. They helped us organise all manner of things for our few days in Ft Lauderdale and really made us feel at home. They also do virtually everything, which can lead to a slightly less prompt service than you might usually expect, but then you are on holiday, no?

“I'll give it a 4*...but”

The Pillars At New River Sound

Based on the amenities and service I will give the Pillars a 4. But, be aware that during Spring Breaks and holidays it can be filled with children which hardly provides for an"oasis" or romantic get away feel. It seems that during my stay in mid-March, at least half of the 20 rooms were occupied by couples with one or more children which made the lovely pool and deck area not so serene. Even the library was occupied by a stroller the size of a small VW.
I am not anti-children as I have 3 of my own. However, I would never bring them to such an intimate property as there is very little for them to do or space to do it in..
