My partner and I just returned from another great stay at The Retro Schubert Resort in Fort Lauderdale (6 nites). As always, the place was great --- the rooms are oversized with king bed, newer baths, kitchenette, central air, huge windows, etc. Request a room overlooking the pool. The property is well-kept (and recently painted), the pool kept at a nice 85 degrees, and they have an excellent hot tub, too. Breakfast is more than the basic continental that FLL resorts tend to serve (due to some silly food licensing requirements) -- although a bit repetitive after 6 mornings.
One of the best features of The Schubert is the staff. David and all the guys take really good care of guests --- and go out of the way to say " hello" and ask how things are going, etc. We've stayed at places where the owners and managers don't even seem to notice the guests' presence. Kudos, guys!
During our week, an RSVP cruise ended and an ATLANTIS cruise was leaving so we had the opportunity to meet some fun guys from around the country, too.
Although some resorts may advertise "the hottest guys", etc--- they obviously cannot predict who will be there any given week. There was a wide mix of guys in all age ranges, and most everyone was friendly and outgoing. The place also had a good vibe going and a fun/frisky atmosphere.
OK, before you think I'm the owner's brother or something --- if I have to come up with something to improve upon: a FRI and SAT afternoon happy hour would be nice, pool towels could be upgraded, and some chaise lounges should be replaced.
But, all in all, this is our "every trip to FLL" destination. I definitely recommend The Schubert. Feel free to contact me at Quincy_Guy@mindspring.com with any questions.

I travel to Fort Lauderdale often and when the house I normally stay in was under construction my friend suggested a stay at the Schubert. This property has a great ambiance and casual feel in a retro/modern/sleek setting. The staff is extremely friendly and eager to ensure that you have everything you need to make your stay enjoyable. In fact they even put out some complimentary beer in the afternoon.

My room was very clean and comfy, although the bathroom was small (but I didn't spend much time in the bathroom).

There was a good mix of guests from young to old, quiet to riot, butch to nellie. There were many laughs and great conversations had hanging out at the pool from morning to late at night.

I think the Schubert probably costs a little more compared to other properties, but I think its worth it. Check them out.

really cute and "retro" resort .. i really liked my stay .. david at the front desk was always friendly and everybody was always willing to help out and offer suggestions .. all in all a great stay .. if you are looking for luxury resort with pillow top mattresses or flat screen tvs i would suggest you pony up the $$$'s and stay at the ritz carlton .. however if you want a nice clean friendly gay resort this is for you .. rooms were clean and shower was clean and extremely large .. continental breakfast was just that "continental" .. it was more than i expected .. the photos on the website are exactly what everything looked like .. pool was small but there are plenty of chairs for catching some sun and also the resort is super close to the gay beach as well .. i would not hesitate to stay there again .. a very very very good value and a very nice staff as well ..

  • Liked — ice cold air conditioning .. friendly staff .. large comfortable rooms
  • Disliked — nothing .. i really enjoyed the entire experience ..

Great place. Stayed there before the Chumley Cruise. The staff was friendly and attentive. Really made you feel like you were more than a guest.

The room was very clean and well done - very large and comfortable. Would be great for an extended stay. Some may prefer soft beds, but the firmness of the bedding was just fine by me. I had decent flow from the shower head, though adjusting the massage effect was poor... a better head would have been nice, The extend breakfast was decent... more than just donuts, coffee, and juice - better than some name brand hotels IMHO.

Limited office hours is strange for a resort, but got the feeling that a call is all that would be needed to meet the needs of a guest. A nice place for a group of friends to hang out.

This resorts website leads one to believe it is luxurious which it is not. The small pool faces a noisy street which makes it far from peaceful. All the rooms surround the pool. Their "retro" look (their term) means its old and painted but not well maintained. The rooms are large but the detractions are an old television with a bad picture, a large marble bathroom (per their site) but a shower head that has no flow features such as massage etc. and there was obvious mold in the shower. The beds were hard a rocks with absolutely no pillow top or comfort features just a sheet on top of a mattress. The "extended" (their term) breakfast was anything but, the same every day and the coffee was just plain awful. Their website shows a happy hour which was non-existent. The staff we met were friendly but the guests were not. The resort closes at 8pm so there is only an emergency number though many people might arrive after that time especially with the currently incompetent airline industry. All in all, we did not find the Schubert relaxing or out of the ordinary. It was not cheap and we deserved better for our vacation. I would not stay there again nor recommend.
