I am staying at the Ft. Lauderdale Renaissance....I picked it because I am traveling alone and needed a nice hotel near the airport and also close the pier...I am on my way to a Medical Cruise and left hubby and my 4 year old son at home....
I wanted to feel safe so I paid $20 extra to stay on the concierge level....the people here are amazing....I had a nice breakfast.....everything from eggs to cheese to cereal was available...snacks and drinks are available all day....at night there was a wonderful spread of chicken, grilled veggies, mashed potatoes, sushi, wine, liquers , cheeses, fruits and cheesecake and coffee...all complimentary.
The other guests on this level all seem to know one another, they travel from different areas and this is their favorite place in South Florida to stay...they have all gotten to know one another and know the staff and the staff knows them...Cindy, the concierge level person in charge at night is one of the sweetest people that you have ever met!
The front dest is amazing and makes you feel welcome the moment you step in the door.
I needed a late check out so they let me stay until 1:30 since I can't board teh cruise until 2 p.m....and already lined up a taxi for me....
The bed was unbelievably comfortable....better than any of the ones that Starwood is promoting....I recently stayed at the Westin Del Mar in Puerto Rico...it couldnt' hold a candle to this place....
forget about all the other hotels if you come here to cruise...pay the extra $20 and stay on the concierge level...it is so worth it...and I saved a ton on soft drinks, water, food, etc.
You will feel entirely safe if you are alone.

I read lots of reviews for lots of hotels in fort lauderdale. I could not have selected a better hotel. I paid $143 per night booking through Marriott. We arrived Monday Memorial day and departed on Friday. The hotel is about 2 miles from fort lauderdale airport and about 2 miles from the beach. We rented a car at the airport from frontier. A convertible to drive to Miami. The hotel puts out lemonade daily in the lobby. The bar in the lobby puts our nachos around 5 pm. When I booked the room marriott gave us a $75 food and beverage credit to spend at the hotel. Everyone was extremely helpful. The parking is $14 per day. They have a business center with a computer and internet access free. Clean room. Quality bed and bedding. Water bottles provided complimentery in room. Would recommend. Would go back.

We enjoyed our one-night stay. The bed is fantastic. The room was impeccably cleaned. The hotel is located in a nice area with restaurants within walking distance. The personnel incredibly friendly and enthusiastic. We enjoyed the prompt and courteous response at valet parking.

We booked at weeklong stay (April 23-29) at the Renaissance through a winning bid at Priceline at $100/nt. With our past experience through Priceline, we know to expect the unexpected. Fortunately, we got lucky and our stay was a pleasant one. Upon arriving at 11pm, I was surprised to get a nonsmoking room as requested and even had the option to choose bed types and direction side of the room (facing east). The room was of standard size pretty much like the photo on the Marriott site. There is a mini bar and in room coffee/tea service. USA Today was delivered though the week and other papers were available in the lobby (WSJ, local). Self parking in the garage next to the hotel is $14/da and internet access is $10/nt. We ate at the in house restaurant, Bistro 17, once for breakfast but did not return because of the slow service and limited menu. The hotel is in walking distance of a Walgreens, Einstein Bagels, a US Post Office, and the Convention Center stop for the Water Taxi. A cruise port is across the street as well. We found the staff to be friendly and accommodating, often greeting us a few times before we left the hotel in the morning. When the internet service dropped after working one night, there was not any problem getting the charge removed from the bill. The room imperfections that we observed were: very slight mold in the shower area by the soap dish and the fitted bed top sheet was straining to fit the king mattress (There was also small tear in the sheet.) We did not have the opportunity to visit the pool or the fitness center because of our business schedule.

Our experience at the Renaissance was a positive one. We would not have a problem returning to this location again.

This is basically a hotel for pre or post cruisers and some business meetings. The rooms were fine--if a bit dark (especially the bathroom) but they were clean. The staff is super friendly. It's not the best hotel to stay in if you're spending a few days and want to be near the nightlife. There are no free or inexpensive shuttles provided by the hotel or even located nearby to get you onto Las Olas Boulevard and the staff wasn't very knowledgeable about taxi alternatives. A taxi to get 2 of us into Las Olas was about $12 including tip. Also, the pool is right near the main road, so it is not peaceful, especially on weekends when, it seems, that everyone on a loud motorcycle is out. We rented bikes and rode around--a great way to check out the area and the bike place for rentals that the hotel uses is excellent.
