Introduction: We stayed earlier this month on the 6th floor away from the elevator. I am a Silver HHonors member.
_____
Overview: We got exceptionally lucky and booked a queen size suite for $99 (I don't know how we snagged such a great deal!). When we arrived we were automatically upgraded to king size. The front desk was very acknowledgeable and friendly.
_____
Pros: There were quite a few things nice about this hotel. First has to be the excellent service at the front desk. The gentleman that helped us was very kind and upgraded us free of charge.
- Wonderful updated decor...very contemporary and clean.
- The flatscreen TV is huge! One of the nicest I've seen in a hotel
- The kitchen was nicely equipped and we had dishes and cups supplied to us. All of the appliances looked about near brand new.
- There are water taxis that come to the hotel to pick you up/drop you off. We didn't go on one but we saw a lot of people utilizing it
- The beach is only about 5 minutes down the road. Easily walk there and down to the more active parts of the beach.
- The mall was literally right there...just about a 2 minute walk.
- The bathrooms had a very stylish tone to them. Very modern and I loved the shower (no bathtub).
- Great view of the sunset!

_____
Cons: Only a few to point out, but one worth mentioning that if you plan on sleeping in late and/or a light sleeper, you might want to opt for a different hotel.
- Ooh, if you have seen my other reviews you know how much I hate to pay for parking. Well, it's $11/day for self, and $14/day for valet. Ouch.
- Lots of construction on the sunset side of the building. We were awaken by the sound of a dump truck around 8:00 in the morning when we didn't want to be up until 9. The building does not seem sound-proof at all.
- Elevators are SLOW. I've never seen such slow elevators before! If you are only a few floors up take the stairs...otherwise you'd be waiting at least 5 minutes.

_____
Recommend? Yes, this place is an excellent choice if you need a kitchen area and plan on staying for a while. If you are there to get sleep though, I'd probably say stay somewhere on the beach. At least until that construction is taken care of. Wonderful hotel room and great service though. DoubleTree is one of the better hotel chains.

  • Liked — The huge flatscreen tv
  • Disliked — The construction noise

We stayed 2 days early August 2007 before moving on to Orlando. This Doubletree Guest House is a very nice condo type of hotel. We are HHonors gold and got a nice 1 bdrm apartment facing towards the waterway beach. The kids slept on the sleeper couch.

As HHonors we got daily complementary breakfast and newspaper. However at checkin the guy completely ignored our profile preferences for a room on a high floor and away from the elevator (to avoid the noise). Our room was on the 3rd floor, next to the elevator and laundry.

However it proved to be an advantage to be on the 3rd floor only because they have serious problems with their 3 elevators. Expect to wait 10 mintues for an elevator to arrive and don't be surprised if it's already fully taken. So we took the stairs all the time, except when departing with the luggage.

Selfparking is USD 11 and valet parking USD 14 per night.

You can walk to the beach in about 5 minutes or take a water taxi.

Just right there in front at the beach is a nice thai restaurant on the first floor above an italian bar/restaurant. If you love Thai try it. I don't remember the name. The food was good althought not as good as the Red Bamboo in Orlando.

  • Liked — Good location next to beach and shopping mall (both walking distance)
  • Disliked — Elevators, housekeeping

This was a nicely updated hotel. The room we stayed in was a bit small, but it still came with stainless appliances (dishwasher, fridge, stovetop, and microwave), a wall-mounted 42' flat panel tv, and a modern bathroom. Overall, it was a great room for a reasonable price. The hotel sits on the Intercoastal Waterway, not the beach. The beach is a 10 minute walk, but once you get there, it was not too exciting. The "happening" part of Ft. Lauderdale beach is a 5-10 minute drive north, where you will find all of the beach-front bars and restaurants. On the downside, the hotel restaurant and bar left a little to be desired, but the breakfast buffet was nevertheless very good. The pool was nice but small. Customer service was some of the best I've seen in a Hilton-brand hotel.

My daughter and I stayed at the Doubletree and had a wonderful time. It is extremely clean and a very convenient location to the beach, restraunts and night life. The staff is great. I highly recommend this place and will stay there again.

I had a one-day stay in July 2007 and loved it. I am a Hilton Gold, so I was able to comp to one of the nice balcony rooms facing the waterway (and beach). The room was immaculate. I was very happy with the kitchen area (although I did not cook), great sofas, etc. The TV was a nice large flatscreen tv, larger than other Hilton hotel flatscreens. The view was fantastic, although you are about 3 blocks from the ocean. I loved the bathroom, including the shower. The breakfast was also excellent. Although I did not spend much time by the water, the area outside looked great as well, including some "sandboxes." Unfortunately I only stayed here one night, but it was a great night. I do have to admit that I saw the Hilton Ft. Lauderdale Resort on A1A, and I might want to try that next time to be right on the water.
