Introduction: We stayed earlier this month on the 6th floor away from the elevator. I am a Silver HHonors member.
_____
Overview: We got exceptionally lucky and booked a queen size suite for $99 (I don't know how we snagged such a great deal!). When we arrived we were automatically upgraded to king size. The front desk was very acknowledgeable and friendly.
_____
Pros: There were quite a few things nice about this hotel. First has to be the excellent service at the front desk. The gentleman that helped us was very kind and upgraded us free of charge.
- Wonderful updated decor...very contemporary and clean.
- The flatscreen TV is huge! One of the nicest I've seen in a hotel
- The kitchen was nicely equipped and we had dishes and cups supplied to us. All of the appliances looked about near brand new.
- There are water taxis that come to the hotel to pick you up/drop you off. We didn't go on one but we saw a lot of people utilizing it
- The beach is only about 5 minutes down the road. Easily walk there and down to the more active parts of the beach.
- The mall was literally right there...just about a 2 minute walk.
- The bathrooms had a very stylish tone to them. Very modern and I loved the shower (no bathtub).
- Great view of the sunset!
_____
Cons: Only a few to point out, but one worth mentioning that if you plan on sleeping in late and/or a light sleeper, you might want to opt for a different hotel.
- Ooh, if you have seen my other reviews you know how much I hate to pay for parking. Well, it's $11/day for self, and $14/day for valet. Ouch.
- Lots of construction on the sunset side of the building. We were awaken by the sound of a dump truck around 8:00 in the morning when we didn't want to be up until 9. The building does not seem sound-proof at all.
- Elevators are SLOW. I've never seen such slow elevators before! If you are only a few floors up take the stairs...otherwise you'd be waiting at least 5 minutes.
_____
Recommend? Yes, this place is an excellent choice if you need a kitchen area and plan on staying for a while. If you are there to get sleep though, I'd probably say stay somewhere on the beach. At least until that construction is taken care of. Wonderful hotel room and great service though. DoubleTree is one of the better hotel chains.
