“Spacious Hotel and Good Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2009

We stayed at the Doubletree for a week with a teenager and two young children. It was great because the hotel is next door to a mall, a few blocks from the beach and close to restaurants.
We had a two bedroom suite. It was very spacious with three televisions. We had a kitchen which is good with children.
More importantly, the robes were to die for as were the delicious hot cookies. It was a nice touch to provide cookies to hotel guest. The robes were comfortable and gave us a high end feel to our vacation.
The staff were friendly and accomondating.
The valet service is expensive but expected for the area. The dock area is nice but we never had an opportunity to ride the water taxis.
It was a nice, relaxing stay.

we reserved this room as part of a wedding block and did not expect very much from the stay, however once we saw the accommodations, we ended up spending more time in the room than we did about town! it was THAT spacious and well-appointed. would have enjoyed staying longer and could have very easily with the modern kitchen space. great location of the hotel (no more than 10 miles from the airport) with a dock in the back and lots of restaurants, stores and super friendly and helpful staff.

First time we stayed at this hotel while on our frequent trips to Ft. Lauderdale. Wonderful location. Views, Pool, Jacuzzi, Waterfront, Kitchenette, friendly staff, especially Marie at the front desk. So convenient to everything great about Ft. Lauderdale. No need to look anywhere else, this is the place to stay.

OK, the east coast of Florida leaves much to be desired as far as the friendliness of the people and wholesomeness of the culture. Some of that Miami/Lauderdale rudeness shows in the staff of area hotels. THAT ASIDE, this is a great hotel for the southeast coast of Florida. The location is prime, within walking distance to good restaurants, mall, coffee shop, bookstore, state park and the beach. Rooms are very nicely furnished and beds are comfortable. Hot tub and pool are warm and bar is net to the pool. The business center overlooks the intercoastal and has free internet. Rooms have great views. Front desk called to see if we needed anything 15 minutes into our stay. We asked for a couple more towels and they called again awhile later to make sure we got them! Very nice touch.

The bad includes: housekeeping knocking on our door at 8am on a Saturday morning, paying $18/day for parking, lots of noise in the hallway at night (typical for southeast Florida).

Overall, I would definitely stay here again. I booked the room for just over half of the going rate on the hotel website by using a name your own price feature.

If you want to save money at this hotel, check your reservation more than 72 hours beforehand as they cut the rate I paid by over $30 a night.

The reservation I had needed 72 hours for cancellation (unusually long) without penalty charges. I checked the day before and even more unusually, the rate had dropped by over $30 a night.

When I checked in and told the desk clerk this just didn't register with him, even as a Gold Hilton VIP member it just didn't seem to bother him. So, on check out I mentioned it again. The lady at check-out empathised with me and said she would speak to the Revenue Manager and get back to me.

Glad I am not holding my breath as I have been back a couple of weeks now.

I understand how revenue management works and that prices fluctuate according to demand. It is, however, really unusual to have such a big drop (not increase) in a price. It left me feeling very short changed as, within the 72 hours I couldn't cancel and rebook at a lower price.

Other than that, the hotel is good and the room I had was nice with a view over the waterway next to the hotel.

Great location next to the mall. Starbucks across the road, along with a CVS Pharmacy.

The fridge in the room was a welcome feature to keep bottled water nice and cold. They could, however, do with having more ice dispensers. When I got into the lift there was someone else on the hunt for the machines. Even on the floor that they are on (the 4th, I think) it is not signposted when you get out the lift.

I will be back to Fort Lauderdale as it is a great place, but it will not be here. Hopefully, this review will help you save some money.

Firstly, online this hotel appears to be the place to stay in Ft Lauderdale due to the great reviews they had, for the price my boyfriend and I paid. Little did we know that we were going to be staying there in the worst possible week! Parking is charged at a rate of $18.00 plus tax per day and the parking does not even have proper lighting nor security nor direct access to the hotel (You are required to walk across the parking lot back to the hotel) .Then on this particular week they were testing the fire alarm system, so we had to endure frequent bursts of "testing" which was very annoying to us, because honestly we used that annoying fire testing alarm as our personal alarm on a morning. Also following the fire alarm fiasco, they decided that they were going to clean the carpets on our floor that week, the noise from that machine was deafening. One afternoon while returning home from shopping my boyfriend and I came back to the hotel to meet our hotel door not locked properly (the room service left it open). Thankfully we didnt miss any of our valuables. As if that wasn't enough the next day, the room service personel left their dusting cloth and cleaning spray/detergent bottle perched on our television. (We met it there after returning home from shopping also). This i found to be very distasteful at a time when things such as swine flu is going around. When we enquired at the front desk they offered us two free nights parking as though that was supposed to do anything.......The staff are not friendly, and some how i think they find it hard to even mutter "Hi, How are you today". They walk past you without saying a word......On the other hand, im not sure if Double Tree is a business hotel, or a leisure hotel, because there would be days that business meetings would be in taking place and persons would be walking through the hotel in bikinis and whatever else......If i were to book one of the Double Tree conference rooms for a big meeting and see persons walking through the hotel in bikinis i would be very upset......but that's just me, maybe it works for them.....

We enjoyed the friendly, efficient service at Gallery One, the valet was especially high quality. The room was hip and very comfortable. We liked the location two blocks from the beach, right on the Intercoastal, minutes from the airport. You are not in the middle of the busy, hectic atmosphere that can be found in South Beach and other places in Fort Lauderdale. That gave Gallery One a very relaxing feel that we enjoyed. The hotel is convenient to everything, we were able to explore Miami and beaches north of Fort Lauderdale. We would definitely stay here again.
