This place is a condo complex managed by Doubletree. The location is not bad, you can walk to the beach within minutes, and there is a water-taxi ($12/day) stop directly at the hotel's pier on the waterway. The taxi from the airport cost about $22 for a 15min ride; from the hotel to Las Olas you would pay about $8 for the taxi.
Our first impression when entering the lobby was good, a nice and modern place. Check-in was fast and efficient, the staff professional but not over-friendly, rather military style. Our suite was on the 10th floor with a nice view of the ocean and waterway and Sunrise Boulevard.
What we liked:
The interior design and amenities were very nice, each unit has a kitchen fully equipped with dishwasher and everything you need to cook a full meal, the living room was spacious with Plasma TV, large bedroom with two Queen Beds, bathroom with "Rainforest-Shower" and marble floors. There is a seven eleven and CVS pharmacy nearby where you can get stuff for breakfast or a microwave dinner which you can enjoy on your nice furnished balcony.
What we disliked:
- Even though we were on the 10th floor, the street noise was quite noticeable. You heard cars and trucks at any time of day or night, and when sitting on the balcony you had to raise your voice quite a bit in order to understand each other. During the night, you have to switch the a/c fan on, in order to suppress the street noise.
- the recently renovated property looked nice on the first impression, but taking a second look, you'll notice that the renovations must have been carried out under immense time pressure and cost savings, with no attention to details.
- the staff generally seemed to be dissatisfied, not with their job in general, but with the fact that they apparently don't get the right tools they need to do their job properly.
I can't say if we would stay there again or not. There are many good things about this place, location, amenities etc. However, the street noise and the military style treatment of guests is really something.
