I won two nights at the Doubletree on Priceline for $65 a night. My wife and stepdaughter took a little trip together and only had positive things to say about this hotel. The price is what gives this place a 5 out of 5. If they paid the rack rate of $199, then they would have downgraded to a 4/5.

The good:
-Service was fine, although they had little contact after checking in to the time they checked out.
-Shopping center next door
-One can walk to the beach
-Big room that was clean and the beds were comfortable
-Full kitchen with a dishwasher
-Large flat screen TV on the wall
-Water taxi is convenient, although they did not use it

Only negatives:
-Parking fees, they did valet ($17) for convenience with a late arrival
-Nothing was open in the area to grab a bite to eat at 11pm on a Sunday

After hearing about the Doubletree and seeing the pictures, I wouldn't mind staying here in the future, especially for the price.

Myself and three others stayed at this property for two nights prior to a Princess Cruise.

It is definitely away from the cruise terminal, so be prepared for a little drive. I used my Marriott Reward points for this trip, so it was a free stay which was nice.

Since there were 4 adults they did upgrade us to a two bedroom suite which was nice of them to do. The room had two ful bathrooms and the bedroom wth the two beds had a very nice walk in shower. The room as well as the Hotel overall did show some signs of being tired. I noticed some dry rot in the window sills in the restaurant which was a little gross. The rooms themselves were clean, but it is definitely an older property. Each room has a nice setup with a refrigerator and a microwave. The room I stayed in had a nice view and was not noisy as compared to other reviews I have read.

Yes, the elevators in the hotel are still slow. The Hotel deals with this by sometimes allowing guests to use the service elevators. This was a little odd, but seemed to help with the problem.

Parking is expensive and I used the idea that someone else posted to park in the Galleria Mall parking lot for free. It is a small walk back to the Hotel, so it wasn't an issue. No one put a nasty gram on my car for parking in the lot.

It is a short walk to the beach area. Each morning we walked along the waterfront which was a great way to start the day.

Bottom line, I think I'll try a different place next time.

We stayed here for three nights this week and most everything I had read on TA was true.

The elevators are basically non-functioning except for one (of three in the lobby). The service elevators work, but who wants to ride in the service elevator?

I encountered an elevator repair person who told me there are "big problems" with the elevators and the situation has been this way for over a year, since prior to the renovation. Sounds kind of scary.

Neither the pool Jacuzzi nor the poolside shower work.

Great location though!

And, yes, as another poster said, don't pay for parking, park in the Galleria Mall lot. The parking fees are exorbitant.

The suites in this hotel are individually owned and apparently are now worth about 1/2 (or less) of what the individuals paid for them and the monthly maintenance is over 2k. Apparently there are issues at this property and that's why although a renovation was done recently, major infrastructure was ignored, i.e. the elevators.

But, as I said, it's a great location and a very pretty spot. Although, it attracts a lot of business travelers and meeting attendees--talking loudly on cells, B-berry's etc. Not exactly a resort, seemed to be more of a business hotel trying to pass itself off as a resort property.

And, the gym was a joke. Two broken treadmills out of four and the space was about the size of my kitchen.

If you do go--be sure to get a room facing the ICW, NOT the drawbridge side facing Sunrise, as from what we understood, they have trouble selling those rooms b/c they are incredibly loud.

Enjoy!

CHECKIN: I booked this hotel via priceline for $150/night for one nights stay. I called to ask if I could check in early, I was told I could try to check in early, but it all depends on availability. So we arrive right at 3pm for check-in. We choose to self park as it was already overpriced. (Hint: you can park for free in Galleria Mall parking lot) The 3 parties checking in before us, all received a room immediately and we were told no rooms were ready. So we went out side to the mini man made beach to wait. We came back to find more people were getting rooms before us. The gentleman that checked us in was so fake and when I asked for a king room, I was told "none were available". I also saw a list of names for “early check in" but apparently not everyone can get on the list. Needless to say, the front desk was less than accommodating. The only positive was the warm chocolate chip cookies we got when we checked in.

Location:
It was cool that you can catch the watertaxi from the hotel. It is also nice to be close to some of the great eatting places in the Galleria Mall. No direct views of the ocean, but you can definately get some great views of intercoastal yachts passing by.

The Room: The room was very nice. The travelers pictures posted are reflective of the room. The beds were comfortable and the mini kitchen was nice to have. The elevators were problematic during our stay. We heard many other guests complaining about the elevators, but we didn’t experience anything personally other than a long delay to get on one.

Careline: NOT EFFECTIVE. We wanted to order breakfast for 9:30am delivery. I called the room service number to place my order for breakfast and I was told to use the form provided on my bed. However, the form did not include the items we wanted to order (pancakes). So, I was transferred to the front desk who then transferred me to Tom in "in room dining". He took my order and that was that. 9:30AM came and went. 9:42 the phone rings and a man on the other line (who barely spoke English) asked if I ordered an omelet. I said yes, he said it will be ready in 20 minutes. I said forget it. I called the "care line" to complain about the poor service. The person that answered the "careline" heard my complaint and then forwarded me to the front desk. My "less than friendly" front desk person (from the day before) answered the phone and I told my story to him for the second time. He then transferred me to the extension of the in room dining manager. He did not answer the phone. I left a strongly worded message about how ineffective the in room dining program was at this hotel and how disappointed we were in the service. Needless to say, the "careline" was ineffective and no one bothered to call me back or tried to make it right with us.

In closing, I have never felt this disappointed in service at a hotel. We were there celebrating a birthday and just wanted to be a little spoiled.

The only positive service we experienced was during check out. I went to the front desk to pay for my parking and ask to buy a cookie for the road. The girl that checked me out said "Don’t worry about it, how many cookies do you want?” We replied 2, and she gave us four. That was the only silver lining to the service at this hotel.

My husband and I booked a one weeks stay at the hotel following a cruise out of Port Everglades. THE GOOD - We arrived at the hotel early (prior to check-in time) and were given a king bed suite immediately on the 10th floor. Aasha at the front desk was friendly and accommodated our request of a high floor facing the intercostal waterway & king bed. She also helped us obtain a really great second suite for two family members who came to visit us from Stuart. Our suite had a kitchen, a combined living/dining room, a seperate bedroom and nice size bathroom. Our room over looked the outdoor dining area, small beach and the intercostal waterway. The hotel has 2 coin washers and dryers available on the third floor. Since we are Hilton Honors members, we were provided with the buffet breakfast and bottled water each day. The food in the buffet was good and varied. We ate lunch outdoors in the hotel's restaurant on our first day and it was delicious. The hotel is one of the stops of the intercostal water taxi. The taxi is a great way to see the area. Great location! THE BAD - Housekeeping! Yuk! It was truely amazing how each day we were given less and less towels. One night we returned to find we were given just 1 wash cloth. I needed to ask for clean sheets! The furniture was never dusted! THE UGLY - The ELEVATORS. 1 working elevator. It has been that way for over a year (told to us by a staff member) with our room on the 10th floor we were told we could use the service elevators which were dirty and slow. We requested a 9am wake-up call one morning and were called/woken at 7am. No apologies! I think the employees lack of speaking and understanding the English language is a definite problem.
