“Good Choice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2011

This hotel is beautifully appointed and in a good location. The staff provides great service. The room we stayed in was a suite with a bedroom and livingroom/diningroom with a kitchen. The bathroom was large and was the very nicest bathroom we have ever seen in a hotel - large shower with a clear glass wall. The room had a balcony which overlooked the pool area and with views of downtown Ft. Lauderdale, the Intercoastal Waterway and the Ocean. The hotel had ample amenities including pool, exercise room, and business center. An excellent continental breakfast was provided) this may have been becuase we are Hilton Honors members or because it was a holiday period. The hotel is walking distance to many restaurants and the beach, but is fairly far away from the airport and cruise port. About our only complaint is that transportation to these is rather expensive - in the range of $30 to 40 - and it would be a great enhancement for the hotel to provide local transportation as do some other properties.

I like this hotel because it is close to the beach and the Galleria Malll. You can walk to both within a few minutes and it's an enjoyable walk. You can take a water taxi to Los Olas Boulevard or a larger speed boat water taxi to South Beach. Parking for this hotel is extremely over priced and there is no street parking. The parking fee is a "we've gotcha". During my last stay I didn't get a rental car and used the water taxi and cabs. I got around just fine and could enjoy a few more drinks at night. The hotel lobby and guest rooms are very nice with a unique style. The rooms are very modern and upscale. The pool and hot tub is clean. The service is awesome. Make sure you enjoy a drink and meal outside facing the intracoastal waterway. Make sure your room isn't facing the Sunrise Boulevard bridge. Traffic crossing the bridge is very loud and you will hear every car as it passes over the bridge. Over all, I've been very happy each time I've stayed at this hotel. I'm beginning to plan my 5th stay as I type this.

Room Tip: Request a room away from the bridge and on a higher floor for a better view of the ocean.

I loved everything about this hotel EXCEPT for the fact that you are FORCED to valet park your car. I had to have my car pulled up, even if I just needed to get a bag out of my car (sometimes waiting up to 20 minutes). There is a huge, empty parking lot right next to the hotel, that must have been used for guest parking before valet became mandatory. It is extremely inconvenient and expensive if you are planning on staying for more than a day or two. If friends or family come to visit, they too must valet park, pay a daily fee and tip. Not good if you are on a budget.

Room Tip: The higher the floor, the better!

Stayed at the Gallery one for a few nights pre-cruise and got good value for our money. It's location is a bit off but near the beach and next to the Galleria shoppingmall with shops and a nice foodcouart. It's also on a busroute to Sawgrass Mills. The watertaxi stops at the hotel and it's a nice way to move around the area. Across the street is a CVS and a Starbucks.
The suites are huge and have a small kitchen with everything you need. We had a nice view of the intercostal waterway.
The poolarea is a bit small but if your early it's no problem. By the afternoon it can get a bit crowded. It's a 5-10 minutes walk to the beach and the shops and restaurants on the boardwalk. Don't miss Blue Martini in the Galleria. It's happyhour every evening and the coctails are great.

I'm a frequent guest at Hilton properties and this is one of the nicest Doubletrees I've ever stayed at. The location is fantastic. It's within walking distance to the beach and right on the intercoastal waterway. In fact there is a water taxi stop right outside the lobby which is a quick, fun and inexpensive way to get around to local attractions. The room I had had a great water view. Aside from the location and the view, the rooms themselves are spacious, comfortable and well-furnished. We had a suite with a kitchen, living room and a balcony. The bathrooms are large and had great rainwater showers with a separate jacuzzi tub. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony.
