What a nice evening! Friends treated me to a birthday dinner at Sea Watch making sure we had a table with a view and assuring me that there would be no singing of the birthday song . We arrived a bit before our reservations and started the evening at the bar with drinks ranging from vodka gimlets to margaritas. The bar, on this weekday evening, was packed as they offer a drink and appetizer special from 4:00 until 7:00 during the week. We managed to snag our drinks from a harried bar tender and found a corner- standing room only, but the views are great from most spots and by the time we took a couple of sips our table was ready.
Dinner started with crab cakes and calamari. Both were outstanding, with the crab cakes being the best our group had ever tasted and since that is always our appetizer of choice, this is high praise indeed. These crab cakes are all crab and perfectly cooked with a nice crust and a lovely dipping sauce. The calamari was lightly battered and fried so it melted in your mouth. Great start to the meal.
Next came the entrees. Two of us split the blackened mahi mahi which was dusted in cajun spices and came with roasted onions and grilled peppers. It was to die for! One of the guys went for the scallops and got a plate full. There must have been a dozen perfectly cooked scallops on his plate. He shared a couple- so I know they were wonderful. My husband went with the grouper which also was a treat with a bit of anchovy paste and dijon mustard. Side dishes we ordered included corn bread and grilled veggies. The veggies were once again cooked by someone who knows how to grill. They tasted fresh and included zucchini, squash, onions, peppers, and carrots.
Our waitress was attentive without being intrusive. She made sure our water glasses were filled, checked to make sure we were enjoying our meal and offered refills on drinks at appropriate times.
If we had one concern it was that it was up to us to spilt our meal at the table which took a bit of juggling, and it took a while for the second plate for the split meal to arrive. Other than that, the meal and service were all terrific.
