My husband and I were catching a Royal Caribbean cruise the next afternoon so we flew in and stayed on the afternoon/night of Aug. 12th, 2007. now let me tell you, they were doing renovations to several main restaraunt floors, the old lobby, and the outside, so when we pulled up in the cab, I was devastated. It looked bad considering several 40 yard dumpsters greeted us. I was told on the websight prior that renovations were going on, but when I called the woman that took my reservation directly at the hotel-- she lied and said they had been completed. so I was shocked to see that! We were a little frightened. But DON'T judge a book by its cover! The inside was beautiful and the tower balcony room we had was 5 star. The service at the hotel was excellent, they do the whole 9 yards of any other 5 star hotel--walk you to your room, ask if theres anything you need, etc. The room was large, huge granite tiled bathroom, and the balcony was excellent, It actually wrapped around to the other side of the room. We even layed out on it and got sun the next morning. The view was exstravagant, we could see all of the marina and the beach as well. We loved watching the little boats on the lagoons stream everywhere. Our RC Ship was Directly in plain sight of our room. It was so fun watching it, and also another Carnival ship was next to it. When we called the port the next day they told us we couldnt board until 2pm, well with all the luggage we had, we didnt want to walk it across the street. and hang out outside. So we called down to the front desk, and they actually let us stay in the room until 1:30 they were extremely nice. we were actually thinking it wouldnt be so bad if we missed the ship--yes the hotel was this nice! we went to the pool on the first day and it was beautiful, there were 2 or 3 olympic sized pools and several hot tubs, there were waterfalls and roman archways above them. One of the pools was a little green for my taste--it needed chlorine really bad, so we didnt swim in that one, but there were others in there that didnt mind, not me, there was a pool bar, a little high for the small dixie cups they served them in. I think my drink was 9 dollars and it was only a margarita. We were bumed that on a Sunday night they only had 1 restraunt open, that served fish and chips. when we called and asked them if they could make somethng vegetarian for me, they said all they had was salad and couldnt substitute anything that wasn't on the menu. that was surprising for a 5 star hotel! So we ordered in from an Italian restraunt named Big Louis--and they delivered it to our room, It was beyond excellent! You must try this restraunt their menu alone is like 6 pages of small script. Anything Itallian you can imagine--and get a canoli! We stayed in that night and enjoyed our room and the wonderful view. We are coming back to this hotel at some point. Im anxious to see all the new additions they added. All in all it was a fantastic stay and Ft. Lauderdale exceeded my expectations, Its a much bigger city than I had imagined, and it had views that would knock you off your feet!

  • Liked — The Balcony View, The Comfy Bed
  • Disliked — More Restraunts open, they have 4, why have only 1 open on a Sunday night?

This was my second visit to the Hyatt Pier 66. I was in town on business.

The front desk is under construction... not a problem. I dont need an amazing front lobby as long the rooms are amazing. The staff at the front desk were all very friendly. It was a nice first impression... beyond the mess in the lobby.

The room was average for a chain hotel. The bed was nice. The room was average in size. I had a room in the tower... again, I do understand the rooms are much nicer in the tower than in the "motel" section. I was on the 11th floor and the hallways did not have AC... thus it was humid and very hot waiting for the semi slow elevators.

The gym is nice, the only problem I had with the gym is that it does not have great ventilation. I went into the gym on a couple of occasions and it smelled really bad. Carpet is a bad idea in a gym!

I did not check out the pool scene.

If you are going into FL to hit the beach... look elsewhere. The beach is too far to walk.... and finding a parking space at the beach is not easy.

I had co-workers who said their rooms were dirty... mine was not dirty. However, they were quite upset about it.

The upscale restaurant... If I recall correctly its called Grill 66... was very good. The food was great!

The place is average... I would not run back to the hotel... however, I am going to avoid staying here in the future as my staff had a horrible time at this hotel.

  • Liked — The Grill
  • Disliked — Complaints from co-workers about dirty rooms.

I was quite nervous after reading some of the negative reviews here. In brief, we loved everything about this hotel and would highly recommend it. Now for the details.

Our stay was for 2 people, 1 night pre-cruise. We flew into FLL and arrived at about 10:30am. We purposely arrived early so we'd have time to get our wine/liquor for the cruise and do some sightseeing as we'd never been to FLL before. I booked directly with the hotel and requested an early check-in and a room facing south east on a high floor in the tower so we'd see the ocean and the port. We definitely wanted to see our ship arriving in port Sunday morning as we'd never been on a cruise before. I also requested a non-smoking king room. I was very impressed with the hotel as every time I spoke with them they could quote all of my requests and they repeatedly told me about the $12 per day resort fee and the parking fees. They definitely did NOT try to hide these fees and seemed to bend over backwards to make sure I knew about them. Our room rate was $199 which I thought was very fair in comparison to the other hotels in the area that also have views of the port. By the way I found the rate on their website as a "business plan". It included breakfast. I thought it would be a continental breakfast but it was the full buffet. It was great with coffee and juices included and served by your waiter. The buffet itself was outstanding with made to order waffles and made to order belgian waffles. I loved all the fixings for bagels including salmon, salmon cream cheese, brie, capers, red onions, etc. They had all the typical breakfast things like bacon, sausage, egg, potatoes, breads, cereal and even fresh smoothies. It was a VERY good deal and nice to get a good breakfast in before the cruise as we definitely didn't need lunch.

Taxi to the hotel from the airport was easy and quick ($15). Yes, the lobby area is being remodeled so you now enter the hotel thru a temporary entrance. It's obviously not grand but it is well marked and set up with valet and the bell boys present. The bell boy greeted us and brought us to the front desk area. Very effecient service and the front desk again had all of my requests and our requested room was ready for us even though it was only 11am. Again, the fact that the temporary lobby area wasn't all that attractive didn't bother us. I think it would only be an issue if you like sitting in the lobby area. Our room was exactly as requested. The room had been remodeled and was nicely decorated and huge. There was a large closet in the entrance hall with a very large safe that would easily hold a laptop. The bathroom had a separate toilet area and the counter top was marble. The TV was flat screen and the king bed and a down comforter and tons of pillows. The bed was VERY comfy. Our balcony was very large with 2 chairs and a table. The even floors have a stone wall instead of a railing so if you want to sit on your balcony (as opposed to standing) and want to see out, you'd probably prefer to book an odd floor. Again, we wanted to see the ships come into port so our room was southeast facing. It was perfect. We could actually see the ships from our bed!!! If you don't care about the ships then a northeast view would probably be best. Although we didn't use the pool, we did walk around and it was very nice and large. The lanai rooms that face the water way look like they would be great as the yachts dock right there. Let me tell you there were some amazing boats!!!

Thanks to all the advice from the FLL forum on TA, we knew all about the water taxi (stops at the marina bar which is right on property) and the Sun Trolley. We got settled in the room and then went to get the Sun Trolley to get to Total Wine and the Publix. The Sun Trolley stops at any bus stop and there's a nice covered one right outside the hotel. It was a 5 minute trip to Total Wine at the most. The trolley stop is right in front of Total Wine/Publix so it's very easy and convenient. It took us less than an hour room to room. After that shopping was done we headed to Pelican Landing to have some drinks and watch all the yachts while we waited for the water taxi. Thanks to LuluToo and all the others who offered advice. The Pelican Landing is a wonderful location but it is pricey (a can of Miller Lite was $6). We got on the water taxi and headed to Bahia Cabana (the next stop). This is a wonderful sort of Key West type place right on the water overlooking a marina. Very cold beer and much more reasonable ($4 a bottle). Had a great time sitting here and watching all the boats (and the Valet guy on the dock for the boats). There was live music starting at about 3 and it really was a perfect setting. All the food looked great. We just had a quesadilla appetizer and it was good. For a multitude of reasons we ended up leaving but we wish we would have stayed and had dinner here. We ended up eating at a mexican restaurant near Total Wine and Publix (I think it's called Carlos and Pepe's). We weren't very impressed. Some of my family members ate at Southport Raw Bar and LOVED it. I know LuluToo recommends this place and we wished we had eaten there or Bahia Cabana.

We discovered we had forgotten a few things for the cruise so we walked to a Walgreens on Sunday morning. It was several LONG blocks away but if you don't have any mobility issues it would be easy. You do have to walk over the 17th Ave bridge (which has sidewalks on both sides), but what a sight!!! Wish I'd brought my camera along. You get a great view down the water way and an excellent view of the Caribbean Princess ( our ship).

Check out was very easy and efficient. There were taxi's waiting at the hotel. It's less than 5 minutes to the port and the cost was about $8. Again, very easy.

I would highly recommend the Hyatt Pier 66. Service was excellent and friendly. The grounds, location and room were really perfect. It made for a great way to start our vacation and I really felt we got good value for the price.

Our visit to the Haytt Pier Sixty Six was far from pleasant. The first thing was that that don'y tell you they charge for parking, ($20 per night) and they are required to disclose this but refused to credit the parking fees. The lobby smelled of rotten eggs from old water left in fountains under construction, and the entire first floor was a mess.
The website leads you to be that you are staying in a high rise hotel but we were put in a motel section in the back (which they have a large section they don't show online). Then we had to wade through anckle deep water because the grounds were flooded (when there had been no rain) or walk through soogy wet grass to get to our room. Once we arrived to our room we discovered the sliding door did not lock, and the arm bar would fall down if you move the door back and forth a couple of times. I felt like I had booked a stay a some funky roadside motel that books by the hour.
It's very out dated even though they are trying to update it, it's very cheaply done and the bathrooms are sorry! When we wrote the Hyatt about our stay they only offered us another night stay at the same hotel, no thanks! I would rate this hotel a 2 at most and that's pushing it. Thin twice before you book this hotel!!!!!!

Stayed here the Sunday night after a 7 day cruise. We had a ground floor room where you could walk out your sliding glass patio door to the marina. The room was very cleans and the two double beds were excellent. Although dated, via old electrical outlets and the large bathroom with single counter sink, it did have a good size closet with full size safe and a plasma TV. The room also contained and empty refrigerator and a coffee maker. The pools and jacuzzi were very large and the landscaping very nice. They are refurbishing the lobby and other areas, but we were not affected by this. The staff was friendly and courteous. The hotel is surrounded by the intercoastal waterway and you can get around if you wish on the water bus. The airport was a ten minute drive and the cruise port was about 5 minutes away. We could see our ship from the hotel. We had a restful one night stay
