We are fairly new Hyatt Goldpassport members and have enjoyed all our previous stays at Florida Hyatt properties. In 2007 when visiting Ft. Lauderdale, we passed by the Pier 66 during the height of the annual boat show, and made a note to ourselves to stay there on a future visit.

This hotel has a central "tower" building as well as many two-story, ranch-style buildings on the property. We were able to choose a first-floor room with a small terrace surrounded by lots of landscaping. The entire property is lush with greenery. Our ground-floor room only had sliding doors on one side making the room dark even during the day - not an issue for us at the beginning of September with the 90 degree heat. This room faced west so that we were able to sleep until 7 a.m. without light coming into the room.

The room and the bathroom were huge, particularly the shower stall. One comment about the equipment in the shower stall: there was just one overhead shower head in addition to the on/off faucet. This is a Hyatt and it looked cheap not to have at least one additional (maybe a hand-held) shower head. I was told the room and bathroom had a make-over in 2007, but it was strictly cosmetic.

Housekeeping was the worst I have seen in my four Hyatt (property) stay.s..nothing gross, but lacking in attention to detail.

The pool area was great with Hyatt personnel always available to answer questions or help guests. Pool-side food was fresh, tasty and presented well.

The Pelican Landing restaurant with its terrific views of the marina and the water were also a hit with us (Mon.-Fri.) Happy Hour 5-7 drinks are 2 for 1 and 1/2 off all appetizers.

I must make mention of the cool vibes played through the speakers both inside and outside in this hotel. Wow! Whoever is selecting the music is doing a fabulous job.

The lobby is sort of a "Plain Jane " compared to other Hyatt properties where we've stayed. And, once again, the Hyatt staff is cordial, efficient, knowledgeable and ALWAYS service with a smile.

Grille 66 is a privately-run restaurant on the property. I was told it is a 5-Star restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. Our meal was truly outstanding...it was perfect in our opinions, and we can't wait to return to Grille 66 on a future visit!

Location is excellent . We are daily walkers, and the walk to Ft. Lauderdale Beach was no problem for us, but if you aren't used to walking, take the free shuttle service available at the Hyatt every hour on the hour. The shuttle picks you up on the return at the Bahia Mar hotel across from the beach.

Would we return to the Pier 66? You bet...I'm looking right now at their prices for Feb-Mar. 2009.

I used to live in Ft. Lauderdale, so I was familiar with Pier 66, but it was not until I made my reservation that I found out it is now a Hyatt property. That gave me an enormous amount of confidence in booking, as Hyatt is synonymous with quality.
We were not disappointed upon arrival! The lobby is beautiful, modern and most welcoming. The front desk staff were so very professional and we were given a room with a great view of the pool. The room was spacious and clean and we loved sitting on our balcony and relaxing. I would most definitely stay at Pier 66 again!

Just returned from a week's stay. Absolutely loved it! Would most certainly return to this hotel if staying in Fort Lauderdale again. Having done quite extensive research of other hotels in the Fort Lauderdale area I am pleased I chose this one. It's in a good location for exploring Fort Lauderdale and surrounding area. Stayed in the Tower Deluxe Double. The bedroom was devine. The bed was so comfortable it was hard to get out of it some mornings. View from room was mixed. To the left in the far distance was the airport. Followed more closely by some sort of industrial works. There is some renovation work currently being undertaken on the opposite side of the road. The view to the right however was lovely and we've got some fab shots. Service was excellent. Dining and drinks weren't cheap but this can be expected in a hotel of this class. There are so many restaurants in the vicinty it's irrelevant. It's difficult to find a hotel in Downtown Fort Launderdale which doesn't charge for parking so it was either this or choose a far less superior hotel or indeed stay on the outskirts which we didn't want to do. The pool was great too. Don't hesitate to book!

Valeska at the front desk checking in was FANTASTIC....superb customer service!!! Room was great...dinner was delish at Pier 66 grill and service was great.
Had lunch inside at the restaurant located close to check in...our waiter was great, very firendly and excellent service. I can't remember his name, he was a latin gentleman. Parking fee was ridiculous, and it is ridiculous wherever you go! Had a boat at the marina also.

This hotel has mixed reviews and mine comes with three thumbs down - one each from my husband, daughter and me.

To start, 5 minutes after checking in we were calling the front desk to report that the cabinet door had fallen off its hinge on opening. Next we noticed that there was no furniture on the balcony (we were told by the front desk that some guests had a tendency to throw furniture off the balcony). Next, we noticed that the laundry cord in the bathroom wouldn't pull. After the 3rd call to the front desk, the maintenance man arrived. He fixed the door and said he would have to replace the laundry cord because it was broken. 10 minutes later he was back with a new unit AND a drill; it took him another 20 minutes to drill new holes into the wall and replace it.

After he left I decided to take a shower, but that's difficult to do when the shower knob comes off in your hand! All this took place in less than an hour!

Needless to say we demanded another room. They gave us one with plenty of apologies, but when we got to the new room there was no curtain pull and one of the phones didn't work.

Other things for travelers to consider before booking are

no free internet (it's in your room, but you pay for it)
overpriced breakfast buffet for what you get
inaccurate information from the front desk staff
terse, unhelpful concierge
hot tub jets not functioning properly

Oh, and yellow colored drinking water. In fact, after finding out that my husband *had* flushed the toilet I ran the tap just to see and, indeed, it was yellow. I didn't drink a lot of water at the hotel.

If all of Ft. Lauderdale's drinking water is the same as the Hyatt's it could explain why 98% of its people, and not just the Hyatt staff, were so unfriendly and unhelpful.

There was one exception I must mention: if you HAVE to go to the Hyatt, immediately make friends with Bobby, the Bell Captain (who should really be the concierge). That won't be hard, because he's very friendly (we found out he's not a native of Ft. Lauderdale). Bobby will take good care of you.

Otherwise, we probably won't ever go back to Ft. Lauderdale unless we know someone, and we definitely won't be going back to the Hyatt.
