We are fairly new Hyatt Goldpassport members and have enjoyed all our previous stays at Florida Hyatt properties. In 2007 when visiting Ft. Lauderdale, we passed by the Pier 66 during the height of the annual boat show, and made a note to ourselves to stay there on a future visit.
This hotel has a central "tower" building as well as many two-story, ranch-style buildings on the property. We were able to choose a first-floor room with a small terrace surrounded by lots of landscaping. The entire property is lush with greenery. Our ground-floor room only had sliding doors on one side making the room dark even during the day - not an issue for us at the beginning of September with the 90 degree heat. This room faced west so that we were able to sleep until 7 a.m. without light coming into the room.
The room and the bathroom were huge, particularly the shower stall. One comment about the equipment in the shower stall: there was just one overhead shower head in addition to the on/off faucet. This is a Hyatt and it looked cheap not to have at least one additional (maybe a hand-held) shower head. I was told the room and bathroom had a make-over in 2007, but it was strictly cosmetic.
Housekeeping was the worst I have seen in my four Hyatt (property) stay.s..nothing gross, but lacking in attention to detail.
The pool area was great with Hyatt personnel always available to answer questions or help guests. Pool-side food was fresh, tasty and presented well.
The Pelican Landing restaurant with its terrific views of the marina and the water were also a hit with us (Mon.-Fri.) Happy Hour 5-7 drinks are 2 for 1 and 1/2 off all appetizers.
I must make mention of the cool vibes played through the speakers both inside and outside in this hotel. Wow! Whoever is selecting the music is doing a fabulous job.
The lobby is sort of a "Plain Jane " compared to other Hyatt properties where we've stayed. And, once again, the Hyatt staff is cordial, efficient, knowledgeable and ALWAYS service with a smile.
Grille 66 is a privately-run restaurant on the property. I was told it is a 5-Star restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. Our meal was truly outstanding...it was perfect in our opinions, and we can't wait to return to Grille 66 on a future visit!
Location is excellent . We are daily walkers, and the walk to Ft. Lauderdale Beach was no problem for us, but if you aren't used to walking, take the free shuttle service available at the Hyatt every hour on the hour. The shuttle picks you up on the return at the Bahia Mar hotel across from the beach.
Would we return to the Pier 66? You bet...I'm looking right now at their prices for Feb-Mar. 2009.
