This hotel was much better than I expected from the reviews. We stayed April 10-13, 2008. It seems much has been done recently as the hotel decor was very chic and modern. The staff was nice and helpful. I understand that they have recently redone the Lanai rooms (by the pool) but am not sure if they have all been redone. The one we were offered was redone but did not have a tub so we passed and stayed in a Tower King on the 5th floor with a balcony overlooking the ocean and harbor. Completely updated and Very nice and roomy with a big flat screen tv.
The hotel is still under construction. You did see
men working around the grounds. The TV system wasn't
great and there was no ON DEMAND. That was stinky
since one night we just wanted to stay in and watch a
movie and then were stuck flipping channels.
The pool area was beautiful and peaceful. It was very relaxing. We ate at just about every restaurant. They were all very good and we went back multiple times to each. Pool bar good for a
snack and great drinks, Buffet breakfast great, steakhouse great, Pelican Landing bar, food & happyhour, great. It was VERY convenient to catch the dive boat. Not on the beach but not too far (5 minute ride or a 20 minute walk.) (We are not really beach people without the kids though we did go for a walk there).
Also, there is a water taxi right there that for $12 a person per day you can ride unlimited and it takes you to the beach, downtown, Las Olas (great shopping, tons of restaurants), all over Ft. Lauderdale, while getting a tour of the canals and the gorgeous homes. A great way to get around down there. (You can bring
drinks on the water taxi and just bar hop. There were
some great places on its journeys!)
We also used the spa which was just okay. We both had
massages that were not great (we've had better). The
services did not seem that outstanding nor did the
atmosphere.
For the price, the hotel experience was fantastic.
Though people had kids there, I would not recommend it
as a kid resort. It was a sedate, sophisticated atmosphere. The hotel did not offer any particular kid friendly activities or attractions. If I had brought my kids, I would have felt that their enjoying themselves would have infringed upon the other guests' quietude.
