“Good value, nice property”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

We booked on Hotwire and got a great deal. We weren't sure which hotel we would end up by using Hotwire but I was very pleased with the Westin. The beach is across the street and Shula's Steakhouse was right there. The pool was up a few floors and looked down onto the beach (across the street). The service was much better than expected for Fort Lauderdale. Sadly it was windy while we were there but it would have been windy anywhere else. Good hotel.

Stayed two nights pre cruise and was surprised just how comfortable, friendly and nice the place was. Located right next to all the bars and restaurants, right across from the beach and just a short taxi ride to the mall. The rooms where large and clean, though as mentioned before the window from bedroom to bathroom is something to note when travelling with friends ..
Pool is clean though can be breezy as it is located on the third floor looking over the ocean .. Great views are an added bonus.
The restaurant downstairs food superb but beware not cheap ! .. Also paying for Internet should not really be the norm in a mainstream hotel these days.
All the staff where really friendly but we did have to contend an item that had been put on our bill that was not even for our room or signed in the same name just a similar name ..
Would stay again if the right rate was on offer .. Great for a short stay !

The Westin Beach Resort was a great place to stay in the heart of the Ft. lauderdale Beach area. . We had booked through a third party and so we were pleasantly surprised when we got a lovely upgrade to an ocean view room. The hotel was immaculate, fresh and inviting.

The outdoor pool, located on the third floor was a notch above. The pool attendants were on the ball, placing fresh covers and towels on the lounge chair of choice as soon as you entered. The food at the poolside restaurant was very good. The only negative of any kind on our stay was of the servers at the pool. The bartender was not the least friendly and the servers spent more time talking among themselves than checking on guests. We had to flag down a server to ask for a menu then finally went to the bar to get one ourselves. They should have been better managed and may need to learn from the friendly and efficient pool attendants. An overhead walkway to the beach was located off of the pool area as well, taking you over the busy highway.

The main restaurant, Shula's was wonderful and the waiters and bar tenders were great. The food was so good, we ate there twice.

The location was good and was only a short walk from many shops and restaurants as well as the famous Los Olas Blvd.

We stayed in a room in the South Tower... which was a bit of a hike away from the reception, and involved 2 lifts - but didnt really matter to us.
Rooms very clean, and large.
No balcony, but a great view to the ocean.
Little extras in the room were appreciated, such as free water.
Bathroom also large, powerful shower and spotlessly cleaned.
No complaints... other that the air conditioning in the reception area way set way too high!
It was freezing!!
Hotel well situated, lots of different bars etc within very short walking distance.
In fact reception was probably closer to a bar than our room ;-)
Beach right across the road.
Rooms very well soundproofed. You realise how much when you open the windows!

Pool area usually busy and we never used it - but I was pleased to see it was open very late.

Parking was valet only, and $25 a night.
Not a big deal if staying a short amount of time, but I thought it expensive.

Overall I have rated this 5 stars because we only paid £68 a night.
Had we paid normal prices I would not have rated it so highly.

A couple checking in next to us were quoted $240 a night.

I stayed here for a wedding this past weekend and I love the location! The wedding was at the ritz so were able to walk there as its only a block away. The staff was amazing, the lady at the front desk was awesome and was able to get me a partial oceanfront view room which was very kind of her. The rooms are very up to date and the rain shower was great also.

Room Tip: Get an ocean front or partial oceanfront room, the view is incredible.

Hotel has a great location near the beach. There is a beautiful pool on the 3rd floor with access to the beach via walkway which allows you to avoid the busy street which separates the hotel from the actual beach. Rooms have beautiful views of the ocean and are clean.

There are quite a few hidden charges which the hotel does not advertise. All parking is valet for a charge of $25 per day. The extra hidden charge is that the valet and captain expect to be tipped when you drop off and pick up the car. We stayed three nights and one day when I had not tipped on drop off I waited 15 minutes for the car to be brought down. Meanwhile, 10-15 people who came after us received their cars first. Of course, I made sure to tip afterwards, but if you need to get your car twice a day, it means you will have to tip four times on top of the $25 per day (plus tax) you already are paying for the privilege of parking.

Similarly, the towels at the pool are assigned based on your room number. If you want towels you need to tell them which room you are in and then return them when you are done. You guessed it, the towel guy also is looking for a tip for this service.

There is also the standard Sheraton Family of Hotels charge for Internet with two tiered pricing of $10 or $16 per day depending on the level of data you choose.

Hotel rooms also have the bizarre window from room to bathroom which other reviewers mentioned. Makes it difficult when you have a mix of younger and older kids in the room. Also, if you are staying in the south tower of the hotel, you need to walk across the north wing and then an elevated corridor which joins the two buildings. The corridor is heavily "influenced" by the smells from the restaurant which adjoins it.

Lastly - although the Starwood website says that this hotel has an indoor pool, it does not.

The Westin on Fort Lauderdale Beach is the best! We have stayed here several times but it just keeps getting better. We are treated like royalty, truly pampered. The accomodations are second to none. When you are greeted at the door by Stormin The Doorman you know you are in for a treat. He is so welcoming and helpful. Totally professional and will go out of his way to make sure you have everything you need. His smile makes you feel like you've come home. We go here to completely relax. We spend our days by the pool where Ray the pool manager and Joe his assistant make you feel like they are there just to take care of you. They keep the pool area immaculate and safe. They know what you want before you do! Always a smile on their face. Ray truly loves his job and it shows. He also can't do enough for you and you never have to wait for anything. Adan the poolside bartender is very attentive...always remembers what you like and how you like it. It really feels like family here. I can't recommend this hotel enough.

Room Tip: They're all good!
