This event happens just once a year and the proceeds go to the American Lung Association. It is definitely worth the price of $100 per person and includes a plethora of tables and booths representing various restaurants from the street and well known wineries to sample to your hearts content. The street is closed to traffic and tented to keep patrons dry from the heavy Florida rains and on the night of the event, the stars twinkled and the evening breezes were blissful. There is more food than you would ever want to eat and more wines than one could ever taste in one evening. The nice thing about a wine tasting event is that if you don't like a particular product, you just toss it into the reject bucket and it's on to the next one.
There were short line ups at some of the food kiosks and the more established wine booths but no wait was unbearable especially considering the large number of attendees.
The food was delicious and plentiful, servers very friendly and knowledgeable. I was a little disappointed in some of the wineries as they were represented by distributors who really had no clue about the wines or regions they were pouring.
There were plenty of bar tables set up throughout to set your plate and glass upon and rest for a while before wandering on to discover yet another wonderful taste sensation.
I would recommend this annual event to anyone in the Fort Lauderdale area. It's a fun way to spend an evening and all for a good cause. One caution...take a cab. Parking was available outside the grounds but who wants to drive away from a wine festival?
If you missed this event, spend an evening on Las Olas Blvd. anyway. The restaurants, shops and nightlife are great.
