Before I write any of this, I want to make clear that I calmly voiced my problems to the management and they did NOTHING. I received not even one apology.
I stayed here with my partner for 2 nights, pre-cruise. And then again for 1 night post-cruise, we cancelled the 4th night.
I have NEVER had such a bad experience with a hotel in my life. I've had better stays at the Boatslip in Ptown....ew.
Night 1 & 2 - room 5?:
Room was sufficient size, with a small kitchenette. Cleanliness was average for a B&B. The bed was old and squeeked and sunk in the middle. The pillows were flat, the bedding was tired. As stated in previous reviews, the bathroom was a little akward, but manageable. The shower had merely a dribble of hot water. After coming back to the room after a little late-night libation at Alibi's....we saw a ROACH..
..and I mean a HUGE ROACH... I have seen roaches in NYC basements, I know what they look like. We smashed it, and had 2 nights of restless sleep. The next day I spoke with management very calmly and prefessionally. They said they would have the exterminator come. That's it!!??? No apology, no concern, no offers to change my room, no compensation, NOTHING.
Night 3 - room 8A:
Prior to arrival, we tried to cancel our 4th night due to flight changes, but since they have a 7-day cancelation policy, we were obligated to pay for it if they were not able to sell the room in the meantime...which they didn't. I understood, and I was optimistic. Maybe we'd get a better room this time, and maybe the ROACH was just a one-time thing. I'll get over it.
So we did get a different room, directly above the other room we stayed in. The room was almost identical except this time we had a king-size bed. This bed was just as old and saggy as the last one. And everything else sucked just as bad. In addition, the floor was dirty....I mean, dried drips of an unknown substance next to the bed....GROSS. Their were no tissues. The a\c did not produce cold air, which we did not notice until that night around 9pm...we tried to call and complain, but the front desk was of course closed. So we unplugged the stupid thing because we thought it was the right thing to do. And then, at about 3am, the entire front of the "duct-taped" a\c unit fell off onto the bed and scared us to death! [----] We packed up and checked out.
The next day I called and spoke to someone about how extremely unsatisfied my stay was. I STILL did not receive a mere apology. I was simply informed that the message would be passed on to the owner. I thought for sure that they would offer to at least compensate me the last night that I had to cancel....or maybe even a free dinner at the restaurant in the Hotel....nope, nothing. How very very sad. I like to contribute to the community by patronizing GLBT businesses and this is a first...to be treated so invisibly and without regard.
I can only interperate their non-responsiveness as explicit permission to write honest reviews about my La Casa Del Mar experience. I will also be spreading the word to all my other gay friends who frequent Ft. Liquordale. What a Dump!
One good point....it was close to the beach....
