We checked in for a two night stay and our last stay at the Riverside was in 2007. We got to FLL a few times a year but have been staying elsewhere.

I have been a fan of the Riverside since 1988 and have stayed there at least 50 times over the years. I used to simply love the place - it was small and special with attention to detail and nice levels of personal service.

Apparently, management continues to cut corners and I am sad to see this happen.

Positives: Comfortable rooms (but lousy soundproofing), fresh decor, two top notch concierges, an ideal location in the midst of Las Olas dining and nightlife, great housekeeping, super valet service.

Negatives: Small pool with rules that were totally unenforced, even though staff was there for the hours we were. Kids were diving, running and screaming, bringing their huge float toys into the already too small pool and making those of us who were looking for a bit and quiet head back to the room far sooner than planned. Really, with a pool this size at least make it a pleasant experience for all guests.

Management chose to do away with complimentary coffee in the lobby. I was emnaghast when I got a bill for $8.35 for two SMALL styro cups of very average coffee. Really, if you are going to take away a nicety that costs almost nothing, do not add insult to injury and rip off your guests by grossly overcharging for a simple cup of very mediocre coffee.

The feel of the hotel has changed over the years. While the tower adds modern amenitied and larger rooms, the management has allowed the very special ambiance of this hotel to fade.

Would I stay again? Yes, for the location and only for the location. Where in the past I would happily choose the Riverside Hotel to enjoy all it has to offer, that is no longer the case.

I surely hope management wakes up and restores the personal charm of this lovely old hotel to what it used to be.

I was checked in at a much cheaper hotel in Ft. Lauderdale and had to leave due to an insect problem very late the night of my arrival. I had explained my situation and they gave me an amazing room at a discounted price. I have seen so many reviews saying the staff was unprofessional or snobby and I found that couldn't be further from the truth. I was always greeted by any staff member that passed me and they were all very willing to help with whatever I needed. I stayed in the Executive tower on the 11th floor. It was just beautiful! The lobby, the hallway to my room, my room....all gorgeous. Everything was very, very clean! When I went to bed I could smell that actual bleach was used on my sheets - that was reassuring! My room was also very quiet which was exactly what I was looking for. I didn't get a chance to eat at any of their restaurants but they seemed wonderful and Indigo has a very reasonabbly priced breakfast menu. I highly recommend this hotel and it would be the only one I would stay if I visited again.

This hotel was absolutely beautiful. We have been to Florida many, many times. We only stayed there one night. We went there to party with friends. We always stay on the beach but stayed here with a group of people to exclusively party on Las Olas (RiverFront bars). We had a beautiful King non-smoking room in the New Tower. The balcony had a stunning view of RiverFront. All of the boats, shops, and city were nice to see from our balcony. We had room service in the morning and ate out on our balcony. The staff is top notch. The entire place was. We took a $4 cab ride to downtown RiverFront and the incredible night began. The shopping and dining on Las Olas is exceptional. We parked in the self parking garage. Well worth it as it may be difficult to park downtown sometimes. Your room key is your ticket in and out. Secure parking and plenty of parking available. We are a young married couple with no children. I would highly recommend this Hotel to anyone. It was a great deal at $129/nt.

May 28, 2009 | Trip type: Friends getaway

Since we were flying in very late, I had decided to book a cheaper hotel for the first night in Fort Lauderdale. I actually bid on Priceline and got the Riverside Hotel for only 70$. It turned out to be better in all possible ways compared to the expensive hotel I had booked for the rest of our trip in Fort Lauderdale.

Upon our late arrival, we were welcomed by a very nice man at the front desk and we were upgraded to a Tower Room. I think this is what makes the difference at the hotel. I read a few horrible reviews and it might be due to the fact that people stayed in the classic standard rooms.

Anyhow we had a good size and clean room with a nice bathroom (granit/marble counter top and floor).

The hotel is nicely located on Las Olas Blvd where there are plenty of art galleries and cute places to grab a bite.

Giving this hotel 4 stars!

Stayed in a king tower room. Loved the balcony and watching the yachts and other boats go down the New River. I could have sat there for hours. Room was huge, modern and clean. Close to fabulous shops and restaurants. Breakfast on the patio was excellent and reasonably priced. Pool area was a little walk. Pool was warm, clean and secluded. Concierge was very helpful. I will return.
