Stayed there through Fay in August 2008, business trip, in the Tower on the 12th floor. Good room, ok shower, balcony, but the plastic balcony furniture was inside the room to save it being flung around by the storm. Bathroom nothing special , bit Hiltony, and ugly little soaps etc. Bring your laundry to check in by 9am for same day service, do not rely on pick up.
Stayed three nights, two at $169 dollar and one at $199 dollars, breakfast great and best value at 8 or 9 dollars for the Indigo breakfast, two eggs over medium, bacon, potatoes and crap coffee ( which you don't have to drink). Restaurant staff looked a bit careworn and didn't make friends, efficient but beaten down a bit, not smiling ( any of them) or making eye contact.
The bar is nothing and about the size of a bedroom, and the other bar is in reception. Fast check in and out, card reader kept cancelling so I had to get the card remagnetised twice while I was there, though I may have put it in my pocket with my mobile phone. Had a fire alarm after midnight due to some jerk guest smoking in his room, and the hotel was emptied out, 12 stories down the steps in my sleep with my hurriedly packed bag.
Efficient I suppose, and would certainly stay again as the hotel is fine itself, but it sure doesn't feel like a home from home, unlike the Ritz Carlton group. However it is on Las Olas, a strange shopping street, but home of O'Haras where you should get in about 8pm, belly up to the bar on the left as you go in and drink $5 beers until you fall off your shadow while listening to great music. You can get food sent in, which allows the patrons to smoke in the bar, hard to love that, but the bar is not smoky. Tip the staff lots, they are real nice folk.
