I am currently staying at the Travelodge here in Florida City and even taking a minute to write this review from the room right now.
This hotel is an incredible value for what you will pay to stay here. Currently, I'm paying about $65 a night (tax included).
Let me start off by telling you what I've seen/found to be the case:
1. Room was very clean and contained everything we needed to make our stay very enjoyable. We have two queen size beds, 26" TV, Microwave, table, LED security box for valuables, coffee maker, blow dryer, refrigerator, A/C, and FREE high-speed (Wired & Wireless) Internet.
2. The staff is by far the MOST friendly and helpful I have ever met and I've stayed at MUCH more expensive hotels than this. Great Job to Daniel and the others. The staff alone will make you love this place because you do feel like they will do anything to ensure your stay is good. I asked to speak to the manager to tell him/her what a wonderful staff he has working for him. His name is Sunny and he's the General Manager and a wonderful person as well. Check in took about 5 minutes and Daniel was very helpful with my questions about where to visit during our stay.
3. Breakfast is FREE and has typical Cereals, Bagels, English Muffins, Toast, Sausage, Cheese, Boiled eggs, Milk, Juice, Fruit, Yogurt, Coffee, Muffins, and pretty much everything you need for a good/filling breakfast. We were even allowed to take as much as we wanted back to the room, which was good.
4. Security - Sunny takes this part seriously and has a security person driving the parking lot routinely. While taking my daily walk, I saw him driving the property. This part of town doesn't seem to warrant the security, but I'm glad it was there because you really never know.
5. Property - This property is immaculately kept. I noticed all this while walking the property. I was even on the phone commenting to my friend about it. Landscaping is ABOVE and BEYOND with beautiful palm trees and bushes. All the plan beds are beautifully manicured and the parking lot is cleaned by someone to ensure overall cleanliness.
6. Swimming pool - The pool is a bit smaller than I would have liked (I'm used to resort-size), but it turned out to be fine. Pool furniture is newer and clean, so when we were there it was enjoyable.
7. Television - Good size television with 50+ channels to include some Showtime channels (3).
8. Internet - Free Wired and Wireless was appreciated because I wanted to have my son's Xbox with us, so he could play in the evening time when we were back for the night. Laptops and Xbox connected almost immediately and made for enjoyable nights.
9. Cleaning ladies were very friendly and I just felt good about them with my valuables. I don't always feel like that, but the overall friendliness of the hotel just made me feel better.
10. Location - This is the 2nd reason (1st was recommendation) I selected this hotel. It was PERFECTLY located between the Keys and Miami. Either direction is about 30 miles and since I wanted to go to both locations it was nicely situated.
Hotel was VERY conveniently located very close to several restaurants - some cheap and some more expensive - that you will probably want to go to. Also close were Walmart, Cinema, Go Karts, and Gas Stations. Cinema was the furthest away at about 10 minutes away. Also, this hotel is located right off of the Florida Turnpike, which will/can get you to the Miami turn-off in about 20 minutes and even as far as Orlando in about 3 hours 30 minutes if you were inclined to go there for some reason.
11. Noise level is non-existent even though it's somewhat close to the road. I never heard a thing while in the room.
12. Booking was really easy and I did it directly through travelodge.com, which was nice because I learned later that my CC was not actually billed when the reservation was made. That was good because I wasn't sure I was going to stay past one or two nights since I hadn't seen the hotel yet. Funny, because now I'm staying an additional two nights because the hotel is enjoyable.
I've tried to make this review a bit informative to help make your decision. I was skeptical until I read the reviews and just went for it hoping for the best. If you're on the fence about staying here or even doing a trip because of expensive hotel stays - book this room now and feel good knowing you're going to be happy with your decision. I know my stress level went down the minute I booked the room and could stop looking for hotels. :)
Overall, this hotel is VERY good and considering all the things I mentioned above, you should find it to be a great option for your stay in this part of Florida. By the way, all the hotels I found in the keys (remember, Key largo is a straight shot only 25 minutes from here. You can't get lost going there.) were about $150 a night and you still have to pay extra for either PARKING! or Internet or sometimes both. Those two alone were an extra $26 a night where I called. Ridiculous...
OK, hope I didn't miss anything you're curious about. Good luck and enjoy your stay.
