Not sure why this place is always packed...? Oh, that's right, because we're addicted to carbs, fat & salt.
Stopped in on Sat. am before going to the Farmer's Market. Ironic, much? The coffee was really good, second cup please. Glad I travel w/Splenda, they had none. The Specials need to be better advertised or placed on tables as both the hub & I found the specials board AFTER ordering with one seemingly better choice. :\ Low-carb veggie-craving diet girl who can usually do really well at breakfast places found no fully safe choices on the menu and ended up with the omelet. The optimist calls it "fluffy," the realist, "dry." Not to mention, SUPER SALTY!! It came with home fries. Sorry, don't eat white potatoes, but figured hub would, so I agreed to add the peppers & onions. So glad! He had a few home fries, but I snagged the vegs to add atop said dry omelet when they forgot to include my spinach. Added a bit of moisture anyway... Well, grease. Oh, and more salt. Splurged on the wheat toast because it looked better than anything else and really was. I spent the rest of the day chugging even more water than usual to combat my angry taste buds and instant bloating.
To be fair, there were many people there mindlessly enjoying their meals. Six months ago, I probably would've been scarfing down & enjoying the same cardiac specials and wondering why I later felt awful ... but even darling hubby who was craving the french toast he ordered (and only ate half) had left wondering why folks made this place out to be such a big deal.
But because I believe criticism should be constructive, not just snarky -- I hope the owners might add some healthier, veggie-rich options to their menu. Dieter cannot live by eggbeater alone. (gosh, even Denny's offers both turkey bacon & chicken sausage!) Here, not even a slice of fruit in sight -- well, until I hit the farmer's market.
Surprise, not a New Yorker ... a (gasp!) Bostonian in disheartened disagreement with their sign claiming, "Boston's Best Breakfast"
