“Great Lunch!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2014

This is my second trip to 29 South. I had the Lobster Mac N Cheese that is served only at lunch. It has big chunks of perfectly cooked lobster meat and the cheese sauce is a delicious blend of cheese that rich but not so rich that it steals from the lobster flavor. This is served with some dressed greens that are so light and refreshing, a perfect companion!

“Farm to table goodness”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2014

Being fans of their farm to table / sustainability philosophy and approach to food we were lured in. The atmosphere of the "dining room" wasn't great - the old house (?) building was a bit odd but the wait staff was passionate, knowledgeable, and proud of their offerings. The food was fresh and inventive without being too crazy. The wine list offered a nice variety. I'd like to go back and try the dessert they're known for (coffee and doughnuts) and try it throughout the different seasons as their gardens produce. Unfortunately we live on the West coast so I don't see it happening.

The place is busy - reservations are a good idea.

“Good Lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2014

We've eaten here 3 times and sampled the shrimp and grits and fried chicken sandwich, both of which were O.K., but the fried green tomato BLT with a fried egg on top was out of this world. A unique sandwich that will definitely keep us coming back. We did put this place on probation for a long while because of attitude from the short haired hostess with glasses. Apparently a couple cannot sit outside with 4 tables available and nobody behind us because the tables sat 4 and they must leave those tables open. She was very content on letting us walk next door to Kelleys Courtyard. The tiles inside make the noise unbearable if its crowded, so when its nice, outside is a better option.

“It just didn't live up to the hype.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2014

Everyone raved about 29 South, so we decided to go. The pork spring rolls were great and so were the fish tacos, but the other two items? Not so good. The fried green tomatoes were stuffed with too much cream cheese (if that is what it was) and we ended up scooping much of it out. The shrimp and grits had no seasoning, which was disappointing. We did tell our waiter and he said he would tell the kitchen, but that was it. Was it fresh? Yes. Was good? It was just so-so. Could we recommend it? No. It just didn't compare to our other dining experiences. Maybe they had an off night.
