My familfy and I ate there on 4/2/08. We ordered a bottle of wine and were told 15 minutes later that they were out of that brand. Waitress recommended shrimp & grits as entree and after ordering, waited 15 minutes for her to return to tell us they were out of it and also 3 other entrees on menu. Lady at next table [tables are very close] was not eating and when I asked her about her experience, she replied that when they delivered her husband's entree, they informed her that they were out of the entree she had ordered quite some time prior and she did not want to order and eat after her husband had been served.
We were some of the last people to leave the restaurant that evening and my son had left his shell bracelet on the restroom sink. We telephoned right away and they could not locate it which was no surprise as the work crew was quite "rough". We ate at 7 places on the island this trip and this was the worst. Le Clos, Horizons, and Carolyns are all much better.

“Try it, you'll LOVE 29 South”

We where pleasently shocked to discover 29 South since this was not one of "the" talked about places to eat on the Island. We stumbled across it on one of our outings. The food was by far the best we had in our 5 day stay on Amelia Isand. To start our meal, the crab cakes were full of crab and not loaded down with breading. My husband had the boneless pork which was served on top of a mound of scalloped potatoes with crisp green beans. I had delicately flavored talopia so artfully arranged on top of a hill of mashed potatoes and veggies. Each plate should have been photographed for a magazine cover. I highly recommend to anyone who loves good food very artfully arranged. The service was great too.

Just ok, nothing spectacular. Nevermind, I take that back...their "Coffee & Doughnuts" dessert is absolutely divine.

I have eaten at 29 South a few times and every time it is exceptional, not just for the quality of the food but for the creativity of the food. Don't misunderstand the food is not silly with frois gras and truffles stacked up like the Eifel Tower, it is creative in a down home southern way. the mixture of flavors are so simple and obvious you wonder why someone has not done it before. The BBQ SPringrolls are the perfect example, the pork chop is the finest I have ever had and that includes all the famous chop houses of NY, CHicago and LA. A must if you are in the area.

This was the fifth of the non-chain FB restaurants we've tried. Lunch menu was just the right size in terms of item availability and diversity of offerings. I had the "Fresh Catch" Sandwich platter (Fried Flounder that day, it does vary) and my wife had the rosemary grilled chicken. Both were quite good and reasonably priced. We strongly recommend trying the donuts and coffee bread pudding dessert, which may not sound like dessert fare on initial impression but added a serious WOW factor to the experience. Absolutely delicious. 29 South was definitely worthy of a return trip.
