Cedar River has always been a favorite restaurant of mine when I visit Fernandina and I was just there this week (March 4 and 5, 2013) I went twice - ordered fried shrimp and it was great so I decided to go back before returning to Atlanta. I ordered the same dish and was sitting in the first booth facing the kitchen when the most obnoxious black girl (Charlene I think I heard the waitress call her) had a BAD attitude and stood leaning against the counter with her arms folded and her feet crossed talking about how horrible her job was, how the owners get rich and she makes nothing, gets no benefits, they don't have a Christmas party - she is fed up - it just went on for 25 minutes and all through the dining room. I was looking directly at her, she KNEW I heard her and she made eye contact with me. I turned to the three ladies in the booth behind me and asked, "Are you hearing this?" "EVERY WORD" they said. I looked across the room and another lady dining alone in a booth looked back and shook her head. Five ladies in three booths got up and walked to the front desk and left Cedar River - the only four people remaining in the booth farthest away were laughing and they apparently did not hear all these negative comments from this woman.
When your employee runs people out of your restaurant she needs to be FIRED if she is that unhappy - then take your misery elsewhere. Where was the manager to allow this? Why did this employee have 25 minutes of ranting to ruin the dining experience for us? I have a house in Summer Beach but will not be taking friends, family or myself back to Cedar River.
