On our first trip to Fernandina we checked out T Rays but we had already eaten in another place. It is hard to find because it really is in an Exxon gas station. On our way in we decided to make it our first stop. The fried talapia sandwich was on a kaiser bun with lettuce, tomato and mayo. It had a nice side of home cut fries. It was very tasty. The chicken dinner (chalkboard lunch special) came with three sides. The fried chicken was good but the greens and cucumber salad were homemade and great. The rice and gravy side was generously served but not as tasty as hoped. T Rays is very popular. Come at a little later than lunchtime and you won't have to wait as long. It's not pretty but this small kitchen can surprise you.

You won't find it advertised in any of the guides as they don't need the business. With a motto of "Eat Here Get Gas" you might have some trepidation, but set your fears aside and bring an appetite for a delicious southern breakfast; or a delicous burger or seafood lunch. Locals line up on Fridays for the fried shimp or crab cakes dinnerl Thursday is chicken and dumplings.

Small, but clean, dining area located inside an old Exxon gasoline station (hence the motto). A family run operation with Ray Sr. manning the gasoline side of the business and serving as the official greeter, with T Ray manning the grill with the assistance of Patty and others. Nothing fancy, you order at the counter, bus your own plates when you are finished and fill your own drinks at the soda machine. But that helps keep prices down and you will find your meal to be very reasonably priced.

Open only for breakfast and lunch Monday - Saturday. Certainly no trip to Fernandina / Amelia is complete without a visit (or two) to TRays.

Great greasy food. You can't beat his breakfast!

If you want to have breakfast or lunch where the locals go, try T-Ray's Burger Station. Unless you know about it, you'll never find it. It's located within an Exxon gas station at 202 South 8th Street. There are no signs in the window or signs in the parking lot. Just gas pumps. The place is a cramped, messy old gas station turned into a restaurant. They are open for breakfast & lunch only, and closed on Sunday. They're known for their burgers but we had the special of the day, crab cakes and they were the best we've had. Food is inexpensive and can be ordered ahead for carry out, which is what you may have to do unless you want to stand in line waiting for a small table or stool at the window bar. No beer or wine, just good, inexpensive food with daily specials. They ran out of the fried shrimp today but "Patty's Famous Crab Cakes" were awesome (Friday's special for $9.95 served with cole slaw, hush puppies and fries.) Several people were ordering the salads, which are also a popular menu item.

If you don't mind using paper towels for napkins, this place is for you.
