“Right on the beach, and walking distance to restaraunts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2012

This is a good inexpensive motel if you want to be right on a great beach. It's a short walk to the pier, eateries, and some shopping. Its the perfect place for a family on a budget that wants to spend a weekend on the sand. That said, the rooms and amenities are very basic. It's a well-maintained property, but the rooms have seen heavy use and It can be a bit noisy. Friendly, helpful staff. "Very Good" is based on "Average" for the room, "Excellent" for the location.

We visited Fernandina Beach to find out what the area is like because we are coming in September. The Beachside Motel is an antiquated place on the beach. The beds are ok as is the shower. The door to the room had seen its fair share of abuse. It looked as if the door had been kicked in the past and a patch job was done. Once you get over that kind of look, the place is ok, not great, ok. Good for a family but if you want fancy this "ain't" it. The beach has lots of ocean stuff on it which should go away. The beach is wide. The area is not Destin, it's a throwback....very few high rises....small shops, etc. the north end is less ritzy than the south end which is all fancy. We will enjoy it in September.

We stayed here for one night simply because we were tired and needed a place to sleep. The rooms are typical, nothing extra. The front door could have been kicked open with no problem. Parking spaces so tight you could barely get a car in one and then you were afraid you would hit someone elses trying to get your things out. Beds were old and lumpy. Air conditioner very loud. An apple and a stale pastry was their offering for breakfast. Would I stay here again?? Probably not.

Situated right on the beach, access could not be easier. Rooms clean and comfortable. Office staff of mature women EXTREMELY pleasant and helpful. Restaurant/bar across street, The Surf makes staying here a real pleasure and ultra convenient. Bargain for the money. Would go again and again.

The only motel that has direct access to the beach at that end of the island. It's an older building, not lavish, but you are just steps away from the beautiful beach! We had an efficiency, with fridge, microwave and coffee maker, just right for our weeks stay. It's clean, has friendly people and good service. For two people it was just right!

Room Tip: The second floor has a view of the ocean and chairs outside on the walkway.

I needed a hotel for just one night in Amelia Island to have a place to stay for a triathlon. The hotels closest to the triathlon start were either booked or over $100, and I didn't want to pay that just for a place to sleep. The Beachside Motel is old but adequate. My husband and I had two small dogs with us and were put in the "dog room", which was not as bad as anticipated. The carpet is old, but the room was clean and had everything we needed. Nancy at the front desk accommodated my late checkout request, which was very helpful. The pool looked nice, though we didn't use it, and beach access is convenient.
The only problems I would say is that the hotel is old and the door is not very secure. The people in the room next to us were smokers and when they smoked outside their door the smell came right into our room. Plus people walking by outside at night were noisy and the door doesn't block much noise. I also would not leave anything of value in the room because one good kick and I'm sure someone could easily get the door open.
A friend did book a very nice hotel for less than $100 close to the triathlon, and I would have preferred that, but the Beachside Motel was clean, the service was friendly and it served its purpose.
