Our experience at Brett's was very positive. Yes, it is pricey but was what we expected since it was on the water. They have a nice porch and rocking chairs where you can relax and watch the boats and pelicans. My husband ordered the Shrimp and Grits...they were absolutely fabulous!! The service was good and we were seated immediately. If you are taking the sightseeing boat tour, this would be a good place for lunch! (The boat tour is worth taking!) My mother and daughter shared a large chocolate concoction for dessert and said it was very good. I would certainly go back to Brett's again.

We discovered many great places to eat on the Island, Brett's is NOT one of them. The harbor location is the only thing going for them. Right after checking into our B&B we took a lovely walk to Brett's which sits on the historic harbor. Shrimp boats are within view at the docks and part of the history of the Island. You'd think that Brett's would have decent shrimp, right? I ordered shrimp salad on a couisant and soup. The couisant was stale and dry and the "shrimp" salad seemed to have one tiny shrimp finely chopped in all that mayo. It was a horrible lunch with the soup being pasty thick and only slightly warm. The food was overpriced by any standards and neither my husband nor I will return to Brett's again.

Food was good but not for the price. You are definitely paying for the view. I've had much better seafood and can stomach the price when the seafood is not overcooked or under/over-seasoned.

This review is a little late... we visited in March 2003 while shopping for real estate in the area. We ate here on the advice of our realtor (who was very good at her business). I just found tripadvisor last year and just now found the site for Brett's. We encoutnered a snooty attitude and very poor food like a lot of the other posters. I ordered scallops. It took forever to get our food and when we did the scallops were cold in the middle. My husband flagged down our waitiress who took the plate away. I asked to speak to the manager who very begrudgingly came to our table. I told him about the scallops and he very sarcastically snapped "they have already been removed from your bill".

Well, we bought a home on the island and have never been back to Bretts. We tell our guests to stay away as well. I won't even go in for a drink and the view.

We have found a number of fantastic restaurants with great food and great service that we happily frequent over and over. Most restaurants have friendly and helpful staff and very good food.

Frankly, we are at a loss about the attitude displayed to us and from the other posts it seems it has not improved, and, it wasn't just an "off night".
