“An Inn that exceeds its advertising”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2010

Selecting an inn from a website is always a gamble. Clever camera angles and cagy descriptions can be deceptive. The Hoyt House, however, far exceeds the pictures and descriptions from its website. The internet does not do justice to the beautiful front entrance with the canopy of spanish moss-draped trees and landscaped walkway leading to the covered wrap-around porch. The inside of the Inn was equally appealing.

The owners were even more inviting than the property. Deborah and Myrta hosted the evening wine and cheese hour as if we were old friends who had dropped by and the breakfasts were extraordinary.

The Hoyt House is on the busiest street of the historic district of Fernandina Beach, which some might consider a drawback but we found it to be an ideal location. (Busy is a relative term since this is a small town.) The house was just a few minutes' walk from the shopping area and was an easy bicycle ride to the state park and public beaches on the complimentary bicycles they provided. Our room was extremely clean, quiet, and well decorated. The pool and hot tub area were quiet, private, and relaxing.

We travel frequently, both in the United States and abroad and have stayed in a variety of places, ranging from five star hotels to budget motels. Our favorite places are those that provide top end amenities with a relaxed and casual atmosphere. That describes the Hoyt House perfectly. We highly recommend staying there.

My grown daughter were traveling back home to Florida from a conference in SC. We stopped over night in Amelia Island and by chance checked into The Hoyt House. Our experience was delightful. The B and B recently purchased by Deborah and Marita was spotlessly clean and astetically inviting. The hospitality and generosity of the Inn Keepers is exceptional. Deborah cooked a heavenly breakfast with the freshest and finest ingredients. The coffee was made in an individual french press for each guest. I had seconds. The mattress was comfortablre and the bath amenities delicious. My daughter and I drove home looking forward to returnning to the Hoyt House and we are sure we made two wonderful new friends.

Thank you for your kinds words. We hope to see you both for Thanksgiving and get a chance to catch up. Our conversations were stimulating and mind bending. Would love to continue where we left off. I hope both of you are well and please do enjoy the moment as I know you will.

Stay Well,

Deborah

By far the best B&B we have ever stayed out. The innkeepers were so friendly and enjoyable to speak with, the rooms were immaculate and it was by far one of the best breakfasts we have ever had. We can not wait to go again and be able to spend some more time here. Thanks again.

We were traveling on a budget but liked the appearance of this Queen Anne Victorian B&B. After meeting the owners and taking a tour we decided we had to stay. The two women that run/own the B&B, do it impeccably. Extremely clean, wonderfully decorated, welcoming and comfortable. You come in as a welcome guest and leave feeling like family. Wonderful amenities - Wine and Cheese reception, Warm cookies upon check-in, Porch swing, Swimming pool and hot tub, Living rooms to lounge in and even beach chairs and bikes to use. The owners are very knowledgeable about the area and restaurants. Above all there is a fabulous gourmet cooked-to-order breakfast (French toast stuffed with fresh fruit with chicken apple sausage or Frittata) in a wonderful dining room with linen table clothes and china. This place could make it on serving breakfast only! Every detail seems to be thought of including roses on the toilet paper rolls! Their location is at the end of the shopping street with a short walk to see the sunset over the river and a one mile bike ride or walk to the beach for the sunrise.

When B&Bs are the subject, I'm hard to impress...but Myrta and Deborah certainly made the grade! The beautiful Hoyt House is only 1/2 the experiance. Deborah's delicious and beautiful breakfasts are presented with Mryta's charm and attention to detail. To you who are considering the Fernandina Beach area, I say stay at The Hoyt House. Great location, just walking distance from the heart of the old town with all it's shopping and fine dining. Ask for recommendations from Debbie and Myrta. Visit their web site, it is top notch.
My wife is already planning our next visit and plans on bringing a crowd.
PS. Spend a night or two on the yacht, we did and it was great.

My partner and I just spent three nights here. Deborah prepared great homemade breakfast and Myrta was great with planning things to do, including complimentary BIKES. They were perfect for riding on the beach. An on-site pool, free wi-fi. They even offer access to their personal yacht! Everything was great, rooms, linens, towels, even the soaps were specialized. Koerig machine 24 hour access, great 5 pm wine and cheese.

Over-the-top offerings from a B&B !!!

We will be back!! BOOK HERE FIRST for AMELIA ISLAND

Just wanted to let you both know that it was our pleasure to have you in our home. We are always thinking of the slogan and making it stick. Our new website is up and running and we now have all of our Special Events and Packages for review. We have not heard from you lately and have put the Oliver Room on reserve for Thanksgiving as I hope you will attend. Don't worry we have Christmas & New Years specials too. Please bring "The Hoyt" shark tooth to show other guests.

Enjoy the day and do keep in touch.I have truly never laughed so much in a weekend.

Stay Well,

Deborah, Innkeeper
