Our dinner here was the best we had in a five day vacation that included meals at the Jekykll Island Club Hotel and in the restaurant with the #1 TA rated restaurant on Amelia Island.
It began with a basket of rolls served with an amazing compound butter (roasted leeks, pulverized porcini mushrooms and herbs mixed with sweet butter) and continued through wonderful entrees of very fresh fish, cooked perfectly, and presented beautifully.
What kept this from being a perfect 5:
1) no website listing menu with prices and the difficulty of making a reservation: not possible online, and five calls with busy signals were required before being able to book a table;
2) the need for more servers: Our server was friendly and very helpful about wine, but she seemed to be the only person serving the entire restaurant which meant that she was gone for long periods of time (when we would have liked to have had our bottle of wine at our table instead of at a distant, unknown location that depended on her presence to fill our glasses when needed).
When my beautiful plate of food appeared with lobster ravioli, shrimp, mushrooms and tomatoes - but without the grouper medallions meant to be the star of the show, we had to flag her down and wait for the missing fish to appear from the kitchen.
Would we come again? Absolutely - but the owner/chef should know that not everyone will be as persistent as we were or as forgiving of the lapses in service, which were not the fault of the server, but seemed to be the under-staffing of the restaurant for dinner service.
We want this restaurant to succeed because we think it's top notch. If you are patient with the shortcomings, you will be rewarded by the quality of the food and the pleasant ambiance of the setting: totally unpretentious, affordable, comfortable and welcoming.
