“Great Hotel! Clean Rooms!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

We were very impressed with the hotel! The rooms were updated, clean, big and affordable. 3 of us stayed in a room with 2 queen size beds. There was a small kitchen/dining area, living area and bedroom area. The continental breakfast buffet in the morning was decent. Although, we drove everywhere, a shuttle was available until 9 pm to take you anywhere in town. This hotel is conveniently located withing walking distance to the beach and about 10 minutes to the historic district. I would definitely stay here again!

We stayed for 3 days and enjoyed the entire stay. It's probably not as fancy as some of the many-starred resorts on the island, but it was clean, quiet, and well-appointed. The breakfast buffet in the morning was decent, although it tended to get crowded at peak morning times. We found 9:00 or after to be much less crowded. The first morning we noticed the shower head was leaking and spraying the ceiling pretty good, but we informed the front desk and maintenance replaced it while we were gone during the day, so they took care of it very quickly. We'd definitely stay here again if we visit the area in the future.

Great staff, enjoyed interaction with Ashabel (sp?) best, very professional and helpful. All interaction was great, room was awesome, great location and breakfast. Pillows weren't so great though. Shuttle to downtown saved us some taxi fare and walking distance to the beach (literally about 5 minutes, if that) was also nice.

This hotel was such a pleasant surprise. Our room had a kitchen area with all the appliances and a dining table, a desk , living room ,bedroom with second tv and great bathroom . And all for a very reasonable price. It was very clean so our dog was at ease. The fee ( one time) for the dog was a bit high at $65. We headed to Fernandino Beach town center for dinner. This was under a ten minute drive and such a charming street. From the hotel the beach is nearby ....almost walkable.

Stayed here for five nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. Large attractive rooms complete with kitchens. Staff very helpful, particularly Ashbell. Walking distance to beach. Nature trail immediately adjacent.

This is our 4th visit to the Island and again we just love it and always enjoy our stay at the Residence Inn-you are still doing a wonderful job.
This hotel is just over 4 yrs old and I am sure is on a Marriott list to have the needed upgrades done in the near future.
It is a very popular hotel and booked solid for most occassions ie: Easter/Spring Break. We were there from April 6-17, 2013. The current manager is Bob Hartman bhartman@residenceinnamelia.com.
This year we came after spring break and Easter and appreciate the quiter times with less people at the pool etc.
This hotel is about 2 blocks from the beach and a tip to newcomers- we drive our car down to the beach in the early morning and then walk back to hotel so that later when we decide to spend time at the beach we simply walk down to the beach and our car is there to drive back when you are hot and tired. There are lots of other free beach parking access areas going south on Fletcher to park as well as a few running north.
As always the golf, the historic town of Fernandina and the wonderful huge clean beach is all great to visit. We love the old and new beach homes that run along the dunes and happy that there are few cement towers on the island compared to other parts of Florida.
For shopping there is a Publix, Winn Dixie and Teeter Harris store (our personal fav). There are other new places near the Plantations such as Gourmet Gourmet where you can eat and pick up ready made meals. New restaurants at the Plantation and in town as well as shops have moved around but always lots to choose from.
We drove up to Driftwood Beach in Georgia this yr. an easy 1hr.20 min or so to see the beautiful Jekyl Hotel and crazy beach with all the dead trees washed up on the beaches there.

The Residence Inn had a few housekeeping complaints this yr. in our 2 bedroom suite. However they were addressed IMMEDIATELY and done with a smile. If you have concerns ASK and they do respond.
Free breakfasts are really great and I have to laugh at some people who complain that the assortment gets boring after a few days if your are staying longer than say a week? But really what do people eat at home for breakfast everyday? I bet it is not that assorted either...lol The food is free and if it is not to your liking then buy at the grocery store or eat out.
My one real complaint is that there are still not enough umbrellas around the pool or in the courtyard area but I was assured by the Manager that they are aware of the problem and that they are looking at sturdier outside tables and more umbreallas for the upcoming future.
Staff were haning new photos on the walls and extra work has gone into re-glazing outside tables. Their hotel 'Marke't is filled with a new wine stand and lots of wine to choose from, Amelia towels and souviners as well as umbrellas for the beach and mats to sit on the sand as well as kids beach toys.
I would appreciate a pair of scissors in the kitchen to open up things and a stand alone makeup mirror so I don't have to pack one in my suitcase.
Thanks to the staff at the front desk and the people you meet in the halls and elevators all friendly with smiles to greet you. Love the front porch with rocking chairs and the cold lemon water is a real treat at the front door.
Some new younger front desk staff are still learning but it is important that they are all on the same page when it comes to knowing about their surroundings.
We will be back for sure!
