As frequent visitors to Amelia, we've been to Ciao several times. The food is really good, and the wine list is better than what you might expect from such a small place. To a certain degree, they're a victim of their success - it's really crowded on evenings, especially weekends. Reservations are accepted, but it's an informal system. There's no waiting area inside the building, but most folks are happy to bide their time outside.
What really distinguishes Ciao is that the owner is front and center 100% of the time. He's talking to people, greeting at the door (often with a glass of wine), and making sure the place hums. Having that kind of visibility makes a huge difference in a restaurant. It's like dining with an extended family.
