This was my second trip with Capt. Steve's outfit in a month. The first was with Cliff, it was 4 hours long, the Everglades were pretty dry and we did a bunch of walking in to Gator holes as well as cruising slowly on the buggy through various eco-systems. We had a great half day out and it was really good value. This last trip yesterday, with Capt Steve as our pilot, was even better. The rains started the day before, so the Gator holes had 2-3 feet of water in them and the trails were flooded in areas. This changed the landscape completely and the experience was so different to the tour we did just 3 weeks ago. Capt Steve, and Cliff, are great Gladesmen, they have grown up around here, spent their entire lives working and living in the Glades. Their knowledge is a constant source of entertainment as you drive the buggy around the various trails. We learned so much from just listening. We also stopped and waded in to a great Gator hole where there was a couple of babies and a mum watching over them, it was amazing to be knee deep in Glades water surrounded by the wildlife and plantlife. The rest of the trip was taking in so many deer who had come out due to the fresh water everywhere, we must've seen a dozen of them, including tiny spotted doe's and some young bucks. There was a ton of bird activity and maybe 300 photos taken!
We all highly recommend Capt Steve's, whether it's the man himself or his sidekick Cliff, both are awesome at what they do. We've done the hikes of the Bird Rookery Swamp Trail for 12 miles, we've done the Audubon Center boardwalk and the airboat, but Capt Steve's is something else.
