“Dolphins spotted and they danced!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2014

Knowledgable guide and great view of wildlife on the edge of the Everglades on our 1/2 day trip. First half was on a power boat that seated 6 with our kayaks strapped on the deck in front, so great view as we headed out onto the water. Our guide knows the water well and this made for no sand bank issues, great knowledge of birds, and the spots for dolphins. Second part was in a quieter area for kayaking enabling the less knowledgable paddlers a great area to paddle. Fish jumped, birds soared and we were able to enjoy an hour of paddling.

“Kayaking the 10,000 Islands”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2013

My wife and I rented a Hobie Outfitter which Everglades Kayak Company had delivered down from their Naples location along with a can of MSR fuel that I requested (saving me a trip to the store). We knew it was going to be a good trip when a pair of dolphins came into the canal to greet us. Reeg and Jacob gave us tips and helped get us on our way in short order, they were very helpful and provided good advice for the town. We ended up seeing many manatees, sea turtles, a few more dolphins, and a sting ray along with countless beautiful birds. Can't wait to go back!

“Great getaway, especially for locals”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

We wanted to do a few days of kayaking and camping in the Everglades. It was something we had never experienced before and were eager to explore our an area that is so close to us. We live in Miami and it was an 1 1/2 hour drive-very easy. We were met at the dock promptly at 8:00am by our guides, Dave and Mango. They explained what we needed to do to get ready (packing our stuff into water tight bags they provided), which we did and they assisted us loading it into the kayaks. Then, they instructed us on the operation of the kayaks, launched us from the marina and we were set to go. It is very easy to learn and they were incredibly kind and patient. Along the way, the guides would offer suggestions on paddling techniques. I was traveling with my husband and 2 adult kids. We stopped at a beach for lunch. Food was plentiful, delicious and easy to handle. Then 2 to 3 more hours of kayaking and we ended up on the beach which was to be our campsite for the next two nights. It is a beautiful beach, lots of shells and an incredible view of the sunset and sunrise. They guides were very helpful in getting our tents set up, since we didn't know how to do it. We walked along the beach for a while, collected firewood and then to our surprise, we were offered stone crabs and beer. It doesn't get much better. We had fried grouper for dinner, which was perfect. Our son is a vegetarian, and he was provided food that he could eat. There was more than enough to eat. Afterwards, we built a campfire and fell asleep quite early. The tents, sleeping bags and air mattresses were very comfortable. The next morning, ate a great breakfast and headed out to explore the terrain. We did lots of interesting kayaking, in tunnels and around beautiful islands. The guides were accomodating and wanted us to let them know what kinds of things we wanted to do and see. We had a great day out there. Again, another delicious meal with wine and early to bed. The last morning after a hearty breakfast, we packed up our stuff, and proceeded to head back to the marina. It was a leisurely paddle day since the current was with us. We stopped for a picnic lunch at a beach. The guides were talkative, engaging and helpful. Very kind and enjoyable to hang with. Then we arrived back at the marina, unpacked our things, gave lots of hugs and headed home. It was a very memorable experience and I highly recommend it to our south Florida neighbors. It is a very easy and different getaway.

“peaceful visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012 via mobile

we went out for half a day gentle kayaking. we booked for three hours. gentle pace but some level of fitness required. we were unlucky amd didnt see much else other than birds but im sure that was an exception. mangrove swaps were amazing and our guide was charming knowledgable and patient with us as novices. insect repellant is a must and visit the toilet before you set off.
A really good day but expect to get a little bit dirty.

“3 day/2 night everglades kayak trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2012

My brother and I wanted to do a camping and kayak trip at the same time while getting to see the everglades. Our trip was out of Everglades city and mostly comprised of kayaking in mangrove channels and the Gulf of Mexico. Our guide was Brandon Gunderson. The food was probably the most surprising part of the trip as Brandon could cook up some very flavorful dinners. During our trip we had lunch on the white sand beaches of islands comprised of mangrove and palm trees. Forty five minutes into the trip we were seeing dolphins and sea turtles and mullets flying out of the water three feet into the air. The first night we slept on a wooden platform above the water in the mangrove channel.
The most memorable moments were kayaking through what felt like a tunnel of mangrove trees, paddling with dolphins and sea turtles and camping on Pavilion Key. The mangrove tree tunnel was amazing as the water was shallow and the paddling was exciting as it was a race against the tides. The mangroves covered the us with shade from the sun and made us feel as if we were engulfed in the environment. During our second day we paddled out of the mangroves and into the Gulf towards our second night stay on Pavilion Key. During that paddle we saw approx sixteen dolphins at once. They were all around us and stayed with us for almost an hour as we made our way towards our destination. Once at Pavilion Key we were able to relax and enjoy the island environment. The wildlife was amazing. From horseshoe crabs, lizards and migratory bird species on the beach to conchs, crabs, sea cucumbers, sea anemones in the mud flats during low tide it was a nature lovers dream. There were many species of birds including ospreys, great blue herons, pelicans, cormorants and ibis to name a few. Camping out on the beach was the most fun as we had a camp fire from gathered drift wood and lounged in our air mattress chairs.
Our guide was very knowledgeable of the history, wildlife and environment. My brother and I felt safe going out with me as he knew the area well and had a lot of experience in sea kayaking. The company and our guide were very helpful in making our trip happen. They worked with us on the trip details and their customer service was great as they are very friendly. My brother and I are in our mid twenties and did not have a lot of kayak experience but are athletic and wanted to see as much as we could so we did more miles than the website 3 day tour accounted for. The paddling was difficult at times, more so going against the tides or the wind. Brandon did a good job of charting out our trip so we could go with the tides as much as possible. This trip would be good for families as well but it is good to be in shape as the paddling can be for a while. The paddling is the part where you see a lot and is well worth the effort. If you enjoy seeing some great things and don't mind some physical activity this is an excellent trip for the nature lover/adventure seeker. The kayaks are perfect for making you feel like you are a part of the environment.
