“Slight Improvement”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2013

This is a follow up review from one I posted several months ago. Living year-round on the Key, we have watched this place evolve since it opened. Because of the waterfront location, which is delightful, it will always attract tourists...hence so many positive reviews. As for locals, that's a different story. This is not an inexpensive place to eat (or drink) so one would expect top quality and service.
On this visit, our server, Courtney, was friendly and efficient. She even brought a bowl of water for our guests' small dog. There were few changes in the menu and while they advertise nightly specials there were none this evening. On our last visit, we had the chowder, wraps with turkey and crab and arugula salad (see 6/21/13 review) so wanted to try something different.
The Salmon Roulade (Gluten free) was highly praised by one of our guests as well as the Baby Greens Salad. The Kobe burgers that were ordered medium, arrived rare/raw in the middle. In all fairness, we chose not to complain or send them back. Perhaps if they offered two smaller Sliders (which used to be on the menu) instead of one large patty they might have been cooked better? The side of "sour cream/chive fingerling potato salad" sounded interesting but was bland.
The menu obviously needs to have more diversity, not necessarily larger, just different options or changes from time to time if they expect repeat local customers, who will still be here long after the tourists have gone.

As the owner i feel it is in my businesses best interest that i respond to your reviews. In response to your first review dated 6/21/13 i noticed you mentioned ordering a turkey wrap, which we have never had on our menu, maybe you had it confused with the chicken option, or possibly mistaken it for another bistro in town. As for our previous chef who worked for us last summer, fortunately our roads went separate paths. OUR healthy gourmet idea of a menu is something we really wanted to execute for our locals and seasonal visitors, something different then your typical abundance of fried options. I do feel that you seem to have been partial to our previous chef. She did not grow her own vegetables although she did use select herbs she was growing. We do apologize if you may have been mislead, we have had to confront this a few times where incorrect information was being passed to our guests per chef Liz. My Husband and i have the three businesses here at Beach Road and we also have two businesses we run in New Jersey during the summer time, so it was very difficult to make our presence known so many miles away, so for that i do apologize. I would love for you to come in on your next visit and introduce yourself as we have an abundance of locals and seasonal fans who admire everything we have created here. I do apologize if you have not received the expectations you desire here at the bistro. Our two new chefs we hired in December have in many opinions, local especially, have taken what we had last summer to a higher degree, while placing options that adhere to all preferences large and small. We have stayed very consistent with the pricing and truly believe in the fact that you get what you pay for. Using high quality product is a non-negociable for my business. Our menu has also expanded to meet the needs, big and small. We offer smaller portion options as well as larger options for those who may have left still hungry in the past. We listen to our guests and make the changes needed to be a success. As we are moving into our third menu this year, having a winter/spring menu that exceeded everyones expectations, and turning to our summer menu that had our local and summertime guests leaving wanting more, now we are moving toward the debut of our fall menu. We anticipate another grouping of bountiful flavors that are not only beautifully executed but also exploding with flavors. Our two new chefs both have extensive training in there background and are so very technically trained to put together flavors that you dont come across often at your typical mom and pop restaurant. Our focus is to give a fine dining experience on waterfront property. As many of our local male diners have asked, we followed through with adding a burger on the menu, which we have been consistently told; we did it, and we did it right! that makes us happy to know that we are making all of our guests happy! I am truly sorry that the Kobe Burger you ordered was not made to your desired temperature and we would have loved to have been able to make it right for you, and anyone who ever has a preference that was not met with there meal. We are always MORE then happy to fulfill our guests needs, they are what keep us going. As many businesses open and close due to our summertime slowdown, we are very grateful for our regular locals who help keep us going during the hardest times of the year.
Again i so very apologize that you have not had a fulfilling experience on your two visits, and we do recognize that you cant always make everyone happy to the fullest, but with a very passionate crew, we are all working to make sure every guests expectations are exceeded and that everyone leaves with a smile.

“Fine place for a small group!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2013

We were a group of a dozen, had reservations and were easily accommodated outdoors (where they have a great awning system for those pesky early-evening downpours). Great food, great location.

“Can't Wait to Return”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

We were looking for a waterside restaurant for a Sunday lunch and found the Beach Road Bistro. I was surprised to see the kitchen was in a food trailer next to the gift shop but it was clean and well equipped so that gave me hope that the menu would also be unusual and innovative. We were not disappointed. The chef’s care in preparation was evident in every bite. We knew immediately we had found a new favorite restaurant.
The dining area is clean, modern and comfortably nestled next to the harbor with a relaxing view of Redfish Cove.

“Beach Road Bistro to the rescue”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013

My wife and I were vacationing on Palm Island for our 1st Anniversary and had scrapped our original plan to make the 1hr 45min drive to Sarasota for a nice dinner out, hoping instead to find something closer to the island.

Well... let's just say we followed some "out of date" reviews for our first option (which in the interest of tact, shall remain nameless). The moment we entered the dining room—decked out in our finest "romantic dinner" duds—ready to recreate the magic of our greatest moment together, we knew we'd made a huge mistake. I swear I heard a record scratch as the elderly and/or be-tank-topped patrons dropped their utensils and stared at us like we'd crawled out of a rocket ship that just landed in the middle of the restaurant.

Instantly, we bolted and the evening turned into Mission: Don't Let Pregnant Wife Cry on Her Anniversary. We drove around just as frantically as we searched Yelp for something, anything where we wouldn't feel like idiots in our pressed slacks and high-heels. Sometimes you're just playing the wrong game and amidst the beachfront, laid-back vibe of Englewood, we were ready to admit defeat.

Before we knew what we were doing or where we were, we found ourselves in front of this place, ready to just throw in the towel and eat whatever. Passing the large souvenir shop storefront and detached, food-trailer kitchen, we made our way to the back patio of the Beach Road Wine Bar & Bistro... and the DAY WAS SAVED.

Talk about a hidden gem. You'd never know it from the parking lot, or the aforementioned trailer-kitchen, but we had one of the most romantic and delicious meals we could have possibly hoped for or anticipated.

The dockside setting provided a beautiful sunset sky and the decor was simple and elegant. The appetizers were artfully displayed and delicious, and the mood was a perfect balance of low-key sophistication and casualness. The menu, while small, was exciting and intriguing, and the service was friendly and non-intrusive.

We ordered a cheese plate, a couple glasses of wine, and took our time. My wife even asked to substitute chicken for an intricate salmon dish and was obliged without question. All in all, it was a great, relaxing, romantic meal. (And as we were dressed for a special occasion while mostly everyone else was in beach clothes, we never felt out of place or uncomfortable. That's the balance this place strikes as far as atmosphere goes, a big plus.)

Hopefully, more people know about this joint than it appeared (as we were one of only 3 tables that night) because it's a fantastic option for any lunch/dinner/cocktail for any occasion. If we ever find our way back down to Englewood, we'll definitely be back.

“Cocktails After The Beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2013

Today was the second day this week we stopped by the Beach Road Wine Bar and Bistro for a cocktail after the Beach. The first day we didn't quite know what to expect and were very pleased to find a quiet patio over looking a canal and boats with great sangria. All the food is made there on site and is delicious. We tried their Roasted Red Pepper Hummus plate which was just perfect. Right from the "bite" of the hummus to the warm pita bread and crispy vegetables. Today we tried the Inasalata Caprese Salad. This again was perfect for 2 to share and simply delicious. Prices are reasonable, service is great and we will be back as soon as we can. Stop by and try it for yourselves.
