“Must Stop”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

This is one place we always make sure to stop at when we make the trip between Gainesville and Inverness. The pies are to die for! The food is home-style, Southern cooking, with very good vegetables. It's a cozy little place with a family atmosphere, where the waitstaff are very friendly.

“Famous for Pies, but...it gets better.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

Out in this neck of the woods when we decided to stop for dinner - parking lot was jammed packed. Thinking oh,oh we'll never get in, we were pleasantly surprised when we were seated almost immediately! Drinks were fast coming, and orders taken. Three of us had the Liver & Onions, with the wife holding out for Chicken Parm. The Liver & Onions were GREAT! at least four good size pieces (wished I had more onions, but...) mashed potatoes w/gravy? Each meal came with a salad, fried ocra, and a chunk of cornbread. Fantastic! Tender, flavorful, cooked just right! Famious for pies, we took our's home with us till later!

“Disappointed on Valentine's Day”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

Having been in shut-in for several months, I looked forward to this dinner. The pie is still the greatest - but the food was awful I ordered my favorite, country fried steak and it was so bad I could only eat a few bites. It did not taste like beef, had the texture of fried oatmeal and was a ulgy gray under the sauce. They need a new meat purveyor because this is a really poor quality of beef if it is indeed beef. Service was good.

“Gramma's Down Home Cooking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

Be advised- cash only is accepted, no credit or debit cards. Cute place with top-notch service and comfort food that will put you right back at your gramma's kitchen. We had the lunch special: fried chicken (we were told it is cooked in peanut oil), mashed potatoes & gravy and southern style yellow squash, which tasted like there was a little bacon grease used. Possibly the best fried chicken & mashed potatoes we have ever tasted. We didn't try any of the lighter offerings, such as salads but they did have several choices. Their homemade pies are sky-high. We shared a piece of blueberry and the crust was the best we have ever had. Our server told us all their food comes direct from local farms. The place is very clean and there are of course several tables on the "front porch."

“Great main course, pie big disappointment”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

We ate lunch at this restaurant today. I had the lunch special (fried chicken) and my husband had salisbury steak. We both enjoyed our meals. Especially the fried chicken and the mashed potatoes are very good. That is the good news. We were very disappointed in the pie. First of all I must admit I am a pie snob. If the pie is advertised as homemade I expect the crust to be flaky and tasty. I also expect the fillings to be homemade from scratch if a cream pie and not from a can if a fruit pie. The Front Porch pie that we were served today had a thick, tough and tasteless crust. The filling (cherry) was definitely from a can....Thank You pie filling comes to mind. We were both disappointed and surprised. I believe this restaurant has been a victim of its own success and is now producing quantity not quality when it comes to their pie. We may be back in the future but definitely will not order the pie. The waitress was overwhelmed with a big lunch crowd....did not offer us rolls or corn bread and did not bring refills for our drinks.
