“Perfect week of relaxation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2010

Our familys first trip to the Florida Keys and surrounding area, Perfect location in middle of Keys and the resort was fabulous. Especially the service, I can't say enough about how friendly and helpful they were to us. The only minor glitch is that the food options are not that extensive in the resort but nearby had many good choices and it was fun to travel around a bit. Minor is the key word here. We will return for sure.

My husband and I live in Florida, but wanted to get away from the chaos at home for a few days. A few things were important to us when searching for a destination: We didn't want the hassle of flying anywhere for only a long weekend, wanted to feel like we were on an exoctic island without the passport involvment and wanted to relax, but not be bored. A friend of ours suggested Hawk's Cay and though we were skeptical we hopped in the car and headed south. What we found when we pulled in off of U.S 1 was tropical tranquility! I loved the peaceful and relaxing feel of the resort while my husband loved the fishing and food. Its so great to have a place in Florida that is kindof like "a home away from home". We will definitely be heading back to Hawk's Cays (next time with a group of friends) for fun in the sun!

We just arrived home after a week at Hawks Cay, with two teens and an 8 year old. I could not have asked for a better vacation. We stayed in a Villa on the Sunset side. We loved the pools and spent alot of time at the Lagoon, too. The kids were all over the place, and it was a blessing to be so accessible, as our youngest is in a wheelchair. The staff was over the top helpful, and gave us all sorts of fun ideas, like two nearby State Parks, to kayak and explore. I had read here before I left about how expense it was and I do not agree. You get what you pay for , and there were lots of ways to cut back, if you needed to. I did drive into Marathon, and grabbed a few snacks for the room. We will be back!!!! Bonus, was it was Easter, and the day with cool things for kids to do (like in the water Easter egg hunt, and another hunt around resort). I did all the fitness classes, too. I could go on and on....

We LOVE the Florida Keys. My family has stayed at The Casa Marina in Key West for the past six spring breaks. Craving a change, we thought we'd try something different this year. We decided to spent 9 days @ Hawk's Cay. The place is beautiful, the rooms are nice, very clean and updated. EVERYONE was very happy and friendly! There were a lot of kids and families staying there. My son was never bored. He really enjoyed swimming and kayaking in the lagoon. We all had a great time with Bert and the rest of the crew on our scuba/snooba trip. Matt, who worked the pool was so sweet and helpful. My 17 year old Daughter and 9 year old Son absolutely LOVED interacting with the dolphins at the resort. The spa was just okay, nothing special. The family pool was very loud and not relaxing. The adult pool was lovely but my son wasn't aloud there. My main complaint is the food and restaurant choices. There aren't many places to eat on Duck Key. The resort has only about five different things on the menu. We didn't mind the adventure but we found ourselves going to Marathon Key or Islamorada every night for dinner. The Green Turtle was a great find as well as Lazy Days and Castaways. My Husband said he would go back, but I think we might look further.

I had a blast ... certainly the highest quality place in the Keys, which I love. the room was fantastic, rates surprisingly low ... pool and bar was so relaxing.
a few tips ... we traveled without our children for a little romance, so the tranquility area was the best idea. if you have kids, there is tons to do ... but i was looking to get away, which you can. also, the staff was extremely helpful in giving us off-resort dinner and drink ideas ... very gracious. they truly want you to have a good time. nice gym, ran every day ... terrific place.

We stayed in conch villa unit. The unit was very clean. It was two bedrooms with 3 baths. Each bedroom had a queen bed that was comfortable. The bathrooms are on the small side with a sink and shower. The hear the units vary but ours had three flat screen tv's, one in each bedroom and one in the family room. One of the bedrooms had a very spacious walkout balcony. The family room couch was a foldout queen. Plenty of activities here for young and old kids. The kids center is well organized with a very attentive staff that actually like kids. There are 5 pools on the property, one is adults only and very quiet. The marina area has a bar that serves 1/2 price appetizers and 2 for 1 well drinks from 4-6 each day. Sombrero Beach on Marathon Key is 15 minutes away and is beautiful. If you want to check out restaurants off site we had great dinners at Barracuda Grill in Marathon $$$. Cracked Conch $$ is good as well but if you want ambiance you may want to go elsewhere like Butterfly Cafe $$$$ at Tranquility Bay also in Marathon which is outstanding. We also had a great breakfast on our way back to Miami at Little Italy $ on Long Key which is about 15 minutes north of Hawks Cay, I saw the dinner menu and it is very reasonable, again not a lot of ambinace just good food.

after many hours of searching for the perfect hotel in the florida keys I came across hawks cay web site, and thought it might be the perfect spot for my mom and i (who like to travel in march for a week getaway from the winter cold)

upon checking in...our first impression was the front desk person who never looked up, smiled or volunteered any more info then she felt she needed...she didn't seem to want to answer any questions we had about the resort she actually seemed unhappy with her job...so we left with our key card and were escorted upstairs to a room that had no lagoon or pool view but a view of the front driveway and parking lot...that was not what we had reserved and we actually were quite disappointed that the view that we had was of the driveway and parking lot???
when i called the front desk i was told there was no manager on??? at 7pm...a huge resort and no manager??? we were concerned at this point... but we unpacked our bags and went out for a bite...as the florida keys have so many restaurants to choose from.
we picked up a few grocery supplies as well as it is nice to have milk and beverages and snacks in the room...
the next morning we wake for a glass of juice or milk and realize the small refridge is not working...everything warm
i realize that i will call the front desk and voice a few concerns...i reach a very kind woman who sent someone up immediately to repair the fridge (if u shut the light switch the refridge shuts off...who would have thunk??) unfortunately all our cold items spoiled... $30 of groceries
and i also let her know my feelings on the rooms view...we paid higher to secure a better view and were given an inferior room at the same rate???
she told us that she would be able to move us almost across the hall...we looked at the room...it did have a better view...mostly of a roof top with loud compressors but off to the right was the pool, fire pit and lagoon...it was set up the same so we took it.
the beds were very comfy with great linens...and we slept great each night.
mom unfortunatley had trouble stepping into the tub which was quite high and she ended up with several bruises on her legs...not only was there an issue with the height of the tub...but water draining out of the tub and all over the floor...even when the curtain was properly placed inside as it should be....we would take several huge pool towels to the room to soak up the excess water
at the adult tranquility pool we met some lovely folks who were 2 doors down from us on the same side (water view side) paying almost $100 less (spring break deals)
the funny thing when i called the week earlier to ask if that rate would be better then the senior triple aaa rate we were given...they stated the rate we were quoted was better...again that was not true...spring break rates were 30% less...we sucked it up, but i must say we felt cheated
they have a lovely breakfast buffet if u don't mind spending $47 for 2 people
all in all i would say we had a great time once our room was moved to the ocean/pool view side
we did feel like we were charged 30% higher then the folks just a few doors down and that did left us feeling overcharged and deceived
would i come back or refer a friend??...i will have to give it some thought...feedback from the management is always welcomed
