We last stayed here 9 years ago when we spent 3 consecutive New Years at Hawks Cay - quite a trip from the UK. I cannot say it has improved but nevertheless we had a good time. Our first disappointment was the new rule that kids are not allowed to fish off the jetties, this was a big plus last time we visited, perhaps they could install a fishing pier somewhere. The second disapointment was having to ask for our rooms to be cleaned in the late afternoon, they should be done by noon. The third disapointment was the New Year gala dinner - it used to be a lot better! The fourth disapointment was the general level of service, some staff could hardly speak English and others didn't seem to care about the guests. This meant meals were wrongly served and there were far too few staff to look after a full hotel, the delays were often intolerable. It's a let down for the many staff who were trying hard to please. The fifth disapointment was the availability of beds around the family pool, perhaps at busy times they could open up the 'adults only' pool to families. The final disapointment was the amount of refurbishment work that started after New Year eg family pool closed, numerous tennis courts closed - it became a construction site! Having said all that we had a great time in the Keys and the tennis coach and some of the fishing Captains were excellent - but we wouldn't stay at HC again.

“Great Family Vacation”

Hawks Cay Resort

This was our first trip to Hawk's Cay and I was a bit apprehensive after reading some negative reviews. However, the 6 days we spent here were great! We had a two bedroom marina villa which was very spacious for four adults and two teenagers. The villa was very clean and well appointed. Service all week long was exceptional. Whenever we would call housekeeping for extra towels or bedding, they would come within minutes! We ate dinner in four different restaurants on the property during the six days, and they were all very good. Contrary to most other posts, I found the prices at the restaurant acceptable for a destination resort, with entrees in the $18-25 range. There are some very good places in Marathon for lunch, about ten miles away.
My wife and I enjoy tennis and the tennis here is top notch. The hard courts are free for guests to use and the pro staff was friendly and helpful. They organized a mixed doubles round robin of ten teams by putting in the effort to involve guests and local residents as well!
There are lots of families here with children of all ages, so our teenage daughter and her friend had a great time too.
All in all it was a wonderful relaxing week.

My husband and I went Nov 23-30, 2004. Our room was nice, we had a great view of the adult pool and you could see the ocean as well. We had a nice balcony. I was nervous about going after reading some of the bad reviews, but they were all way off. I am a picky person when it comes to cleanliness and our room and the entire resort was very clean and nice and well kept. The food was ok...but we didn't eat much at the resort. Breakfast alone was $15 per person every morning at the buffet. Drinks were $8 each as well, they include gratuity automatically to everything you order. They were good strong drinks though. We did spend alot more time in Key West and on Marathon. We didn't realize that Key West was so far away from Duck Key. Another thing was the beach at the resort was not a beach really...there are no real nice beaches with the white clean sand for miles. However we did find Bahia Honda Park to be amazing. The snorkle trip with them was much better then the snorkle trip with the resort. My husband was more impressed when we went with the Bahia Honda Park. The beach at Bahia was small and full of seaweed, but the water was amazing and warm...I spent all my time in the water as opposed to laying on the beach. All in all Hawks Cay was nice, but next time we would stay closer to Key West, there is no night life on Duck Key...but for kids and famlies it's very nice.

We spent 5 days at Hawk's Cay in October having booked it after seeing a discounted rate of $100/day (not including the resort fee). We were put into an okay room overlooking the parking lot but after asking to move got a great corner room overlooking the adult pool and the water with a wrap around porch. We skipped breakfast, had lunch by the pool and had dinner at one of the many inexpensive restaurants in and around Marathon. We found the staff to be extremely helpful.

“NOT WORTH THE $$$$$$”

Hawks Cay Resort

My family and I were very disappointed with Hawks Cay. From the moment we arrived things were bad. There were no bellman to help with our bags. At check-in, the clerks were more interested in discussing their weekend plans than assisting us. Twice they moved us from room to room, and each time we were more disappointed than the first. The rooms were small, moldy, smelly and had the no view. The idea of any customer service is lost at this resort. The resort fee is outrageous! The day before our check-out, we ran into the GM in the lobby. We greeted him with a smile, but he was too busy scolding an employee in plain sight of the guests. No one at this resort seems interested in the guest experience! The restaurants left a lot to be desired. The breakfast buffet was nothing spectacular. The only place to get lunch offered very little on the menu and nothing "special" for kids or families. The dinner restaurants were ok, but like everything else at the "resort", very, very pricey.

All in all, I would not recommend this resort.
