“Nice place but”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2012

I stay back in the first week of Feb 2012.
Most of the staff was very nice and helpful. If you need to swim or lay around it for you. Price's are very high and the food/drinks are not worth the price. Watch your beer tab, they say this one's on the house and bang $7.
It is not meant for the older folks 65 plus (if your in great shape) the main pool is nice but the adult pool had bugs in the tents and look like its been their for months.
I advised a manager (Front desk) that morning and when I went back to the same area about 12 noon the next day, it was the same. The major issue: At every hotel /resort I stayed at they never told someone where your room was. This resort did and I was very unhappy when I had an uninvited guest knocking at my door.
Make sure before you leave to closed and lock the patio door. Nothing happen but it could of. The sad part with the issue’s I had they never offered something for being upset.
Most resort/hotel give you water/food coupons/ free rentals.

Room Tip: "Rooms on the south side are quieter"

The resort itself is very pretty and is surrounded by beautiful water. The resort itself does not offer much to do. Every activity cost extra and is very expensive. The staff is friendly, but the house keeping was not very good. We found old food in our hotel room. The floor that we stayed on smelled like old garbage the entire week we were there. The food and drinks was very expensive.

We were late arriving due to our delayed flight from Atlanta to Ft. Lauderdale so we got there in the early evening. No problem. Staff was friendly and courteous. Bags were brought up to our lovely water view king room #3215 promptly. This room overlooks the tranquility pool and the Atlantic ocean with a very large wrap around balcony. Lobby and grounds are beautifully kept and impressively elegant.

A request for an additional luggage rack was answered promptly and a call to follow up was left on our message service. The room was lovely, clean, well appointed and tastefully decorated. Loved the Bose stereo alarm clock and lighted cosmetic mirror. No noisy AC, just a new digital thermostat on the wall. Had the ceiling fan going the whole time and it was perfectly silent. Mini fridge didn't seem very cold and had no adjustment, but a bottle of champagne in there for 2 days was plenty cold. Safe worked perfectly.

Noise from other guests was virtually nonexistent, and we did have neighbors, but this could be due to the off season. Very few people at this resort during our 4 night stay. Going in Sept. does have its downside besides hurricanes. The beach grill was closed the whole time we were there. Pool towels were only available from the other pool near the Lobby. No tram service at all but a driver with a golf cart was supplied to take us to Tom's on Thursday nite. The fire pit and torches on our side were lit only on the last night we were there which was Thursday. It did seem to be getting busier with early weekend guests.

Especially disappointing was the sunset champagne cruise. It only departs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and then only if 10 or more people have reserved a place. In the off season, I would guess it NEVER departs the marina, so since there were maybe only 50 guests in the whole resort, it was no go.

Hawk's Cay does cater to those who love watersports. All activities such as jet ski, snuba, snorkeling, swimming with dolphins, segway excursions, etc are ala carte and quite pricey. Beautiful pools and lagoon but no actual beach on the ocean. Only about 2 hrs away from Key West which is great for a day trip or even just an afternoon or evening.

We dined at Alma on our anniversary and had an outstanding, although expensive meal. We had breakfast only once on site at the Terrace adjacent to the main pool. They did allow me to order from the children's menu for my smaller appetite, albeit without juice or toast, which was fine with me. We ate alfresco at Toms Harbor House once. It was ok but nothing special and had room for improvement. Most of the time we chose to drive and explore other local restaurant choices. The 2 computers in the lobby alcove available for guest use enabled us to search for reviews of nearby restaurants. Late night room service choices were a bit disappointing if you're gluten free, so be sure to swing by a grocery and pick up snacks. We also stopped by a liquor store and bought our favorite spirits to enjoy in our room or by the pool as most of the cocktails were $9 or more each.

Would have loved to have stayed much longer. All it takes is money...

Room Tip: Room 3215 is a corner room at the end of the hall away from elevator and conveniently next to the ex...

My wife and I went to Hawks Cay over Labor Day weekend. What an awesome place. Great staff, good food, tons of activities and a very clean modern room. If you don't want to be around kids the serenity pool is great with poolside service. Is Hawks Cay pricey, yes, so if you don't have the money don't go and complain about it on this site! We will definitely be going back to the Cay in the near future.

A great place to stay in the keys with reasonable rates during off peak times. The staff was "over the top" nice and were always there to help. It was clean, fun and lots to do. We would stay again! The pool was always open and the salt water lagoon was a great place to swim. The marina was fun to visit and had great places to eat. The tarpon were right off the dock and fun to watch.

We have stayed here many times and this time opted for a villa since we had our daughter coming down with friends and needed more space. Last time we stayed in the villas but this time the Marina Villas. Our villa had some issues : cardboard taped over the vents, curtains ripped off the track , fan in living room didn't work and screens on the porch ripped.
We did report these to the main desk but this is a private owner so not sure what happens.
The service at the hotel was wonderful and it was great having the "Adult Only Tranquility Pool"section. I love kids but nice to have a quiet space to relax.
The marina was great to visit and loved they would cook the Mahi Mahi we caught!
All in all it was a great vacation just think the owner of this unit needs to do some upkeep.
Also my daughter left an item in the room and they were prompt to go check the room and mail it to us.
I would stay again but would probably ask a bit more about the unit first.

We arrived at the resort for a weekend getaway. We stayed at the Sunset Villas, which is a part of the resort. The villa, which was a two bedroom 2.5 bathrooms was amazing. Very clean and well equipped with everything you would expect in both a villa and a hotel room.

The rooms were small, but very comfortable including nice 300 thread count sheets. The kitchen was spacious, clean and so were the remaining areas of the room. Across the street we found the Dive Shop, which if you plan to cook in your villa (which we did not), you will find all kind of basics and we were lucky to even find some decently priced liquor! At this shop, you will find all kinds of things ranging from food, first aid to even clothes and flip flops.

We went out to dinner on our first night to Tom's Harbor House, where w found not only delicious food, but impeccable service. Heather, our waitress, was a delight. She was very informative and knew the menu inside out even pointing out her favorites. This was flat out the best dining experience at this resort. The worst and sole reason why I didn't give this place 5 stars is the Alma restaurant. We arrived at Alma at 8:30pm, put in our order and waited. At approximately 9pm, our waiter advised us that our meal was taking longer due to a pork chop I had ordered, which was supposed to be very thick and was taking longer to cook. Ten minutes later the manager came out and asked us how everything was going and it was then that I pointed out that we had been waiting 40 minutes for our dinner. She was very quick to assure us that our food would be coming out in the next 4 minutes. Needless to say another 25 minutes passed by and no food. Both she and our waiter conveniently disappeared and we decided to get up and leave. At that point, the manager appeared and tried to convince us to wait for the food "so it would'nt go to waste"and even tried to have it sent up to our room. We of course refused her sad offer and paid for the appetizers and drinks we had ordered. She made no attempt to try to pacify us and did not even offer a reasonable excuse to the horrendous service we had experienced. I think it goes without saying that this manager lacked professionalism and experience. I really liked this resort, but will NEVER visit Alma restaurant again and will warn others about it. What we hoped would be a great gastronomical experience, turned into a night of hunger. We were lucky to still find Tom's Harbor House open and our helpful waitress Heather, once again made our night a very special one. We told her how happy we were to find her there again and explained our nasty fiasco and they offered us a great dining experience. Other than that tiff at Alma, our weekend getaway was spectacular!!
