“Family gathering”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2014

Our family stayed in Ariel Dunes II. Our condo was beautifully decorated, very clean and comfortable. Our particular unit had tile throughout, which I prefer over carpet. We had a great ocean view from our balcony and could see fireworks in the distance. Getting in and out of this location is difficult since traffic on the highway is so bad and there is not a traffic light. It is not located on the beach, but there is a shuttle. There really wasn't a gathering place or grills available to cook out. We enjoyed the trip and would recommend.

Sounds like you had a very nice time with us at the Ariel Dunes. We're sorry there weren't any grills on-site for you, however just about a quarter a mile east, but still on our property and near the golf course, we had full access grills for you to use! Just an "FYI" for next time!

This was our first time in Destin and I can't say enough wonderful things about our stay. This location was perfect we were right across the street from the beach. The pool area remained clean at all times and it was never overcrowded. We had three families with a total of six kids. There was reasonable entertainment for the children within close proximity e.g Harbor walk, The Track, and Water Park. We didn't have to travel more than 5 miles for entertainment, dinner, or grocery stores. We normally visit Fort Morgan each summer for our vacation, but this trip has made us have a change of heart.

We absolutely love Ariel Dunes! We have stayed a total of 4 times in the Ariel Dunes I and II complexes in SeaScape. Three of the four times have been through private owners found on VRBO and once was through the onsite Seascape rental management (where you check in onsite in a lobby). I personally prefer going through VRBO and have found that generally their rates are cheaper than going through the management company.

The pools are great! One has a "mushroom" water fountain. That's the only water feature, but the kids like it. It's a zero entry pool as well, which is nice for the little ones. The other pool is just a standard pool. I have heard some complain that depending on which one you book you can only swim in one or the other, but we've always swam in both.

Now, just so all know (this was my biggest concern the first time we booked), this complex is not right on the beach. There are two other buildings in front of Ariel Dunes that are closer to the beach. This complex is on the opposite side of Old Hwy 98 from the beach (you have to cross old 98 to get to the beach). This is no big deal - there is a crosswalk and most cars are friendly and will stop to let you cross. In addition, you have to walk from the Ariel Dunes complex down a sidewalk between two other building to get to the beach. We were so worried about this when we initially booked. The walk is about a 5 minute walk. It is no big deal in our opinion and the scenery is pretty. The beach is in view the entire time you are walking so it still feels like you are at the beach. You may want to pack light for the walks though. To combat carrying lots of stuff, we usually get up early and go pitch our tent and place our stuff at the beach, go eat breakfast and then come back with the family for the day. At the end of the day, the men in our group usually take everything down and bring it back up while the women and kids are getting ready to go out for the evening. Works for us at least.

Because the complex isn't right on the beach and there's two other complexes in front of it, to have a good view of the beach you'll want to stay as high as possible. Rooms on the lower levels (likely 1-10) don't usually have a great view. We stayed on the 6th floor one time and had just some glimpses between the buildings (but had a view of the pools). We personally like staying on the 20-24th floors to get the full view. You can see the beach and the entire coastline looking out. It's really pretty at night. I might also add that from the front door of the rooms you'll have a view of the bay and golf course on the other side of the complex. It's really pretty.

We have found the buildings to be well maintained, the pools to be well maintained, and the staff to be friendly. I can't speak on the rooms because every one is different because they are independently owned. We haven't been disappointed in any we've stayed in, however. There is also a restaurant/bar onsite. We like this. It's not the highest quality, but very good, and most importantly to us, affordable. We'll grab a quick lunch here sometimes or if we're tired just run down there for dinner. At night, they stay open late, especially weekends, and we'll sneak down to the bar for drinks. Apparently a lot of locals go here, which is kind of a fun atmosphere to watch. There was some dancing, but nothing crazy - definitely not a club.

A few other notes - the complex is gated. It's not super secure, but it's nice that it's there. You can play a round of golf at Seascape golf course, but be sure to make a tee time and it's kind of pricey. There's plenty of parking, but during peak season you may have to park a little far out.

We really love Ariel Dunes. We stayed at Sandestin prior. The only advantage in our opinion of Sandestin is that it is truly on the beach. Ariel Dunes is significantly cheaper and just as desirable, even if we have to walk a few minutes to the beach.

Room Tip: The higher you stay the better the view will be of the ocean and coastline.

My wife and I are very privileged travelers. 154 islands of the world and 46 counties. We now go almost all of the time to Miramar Beach. We have rented there 7 times. Ecstatically happy every time, Very close to beach, one mile to outlet mall, many restaurants, Win Dixie,. Next to Whales Tale Restaurant, two more restaurants on property.

The view, the view, THE VIEW!! incredible TO WAKE UP TO.. West view, wow the sunsets!
We decided to buy our own.

Room Tip: Higher the floor, the better the view. Elevator very quick. View to the east at each entry door.

pleasing rate, smack dab on the beach, centrally located for shopping and restaurants. well appointed rooms, we cannot wait to return. the kids loved the beach being so close to the room, as did we by not having to cart all those toys, chairs…etc back n forth.

4 adults were placed in a lakefront villa with torn furniture, mold on balcony chairs, cigarette butts in kitchen cabinets, no soap or toiletries in any bathroom, missing vertical blinds which gave no privacy, etc, etc. I have pictures to back these complaints

We stayed in Ariel dunes II. The condos are beautiful. Very elegant, 24 hour security, fitness center with 3 (unheated) swimming pools. Everything has a code which is kind of annoying. The codes are so long you need to keep your phone with you for reference. The beach was too far to walk to, which is a deal breaker for us. I don’t want to cross a highway with my toddler. The beach did have free parking along it... if you could find a spot. The area is upscale and an older community. We will stay in the middle of Destin like we did last year, it was more enjoyable.

Besides the distance to the beach it sounds like you and your family had an ultimately satisfying stay with us. If it's within your means I would like to suggest visiting between the months of June through August when we have a full service beach tram that will pick you up and drop you all off from the resort to the beach and vice versa! We would love to have you back visiting with us again!
