“A new family tradition”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012

We just came home from our second visit to SC. We stayed in the same unit as we did in 2010 (yes, the year of the BP oil spill did not keep us from visiting beautiful Destin!). Our second floor unit was on the beach facing the Gulf. Simply beautiful! Our condo had all the amenities of home (except for the dysfunctional blender, we went and bought our own). We just love that we had both washer and dryer in the unit which comes in handy with kids and sand. Plenty of linens and blankets and the unit is up-to-date. The deck is large and a great place to enjoy the evenings but it still had the same broken furniture from two years ago. We will be returning again! And thank you to the wonderful staff at the chair rental office. They were very accommodating especially when several times we needed them to 'chase away' the people and 'stuff' left on our prepaid chairs when we arrived for our day on the beach. You guys were great!

I found a condo at SPC when I was just about to give up finding an affordable place to stay in Destin. We booked through the owner of the condo and it was absolutely perfect! It was beautifully decorated and fully stocked with EVERYTHING we could think of. It was home away from home. The canal was right behind our place, which was perfect for our kids to fish. They loved it. We also had a golf hole right behind us as well, another thing that they enjoyed doing. There is a golf course right on the property and we saw lots of people young and old playing every day. There are 5 pools on the property, all of them very nice. We were a short walk to 2 of them.
The downside:

Our condo was further back from the beach, which was about a 7 minute walk. Walking wouldn't kill us if it weren't for all the beach stuff we had to haul. There is a secured parking lot by the beach that you can use, so most days we just drove to the beach and unloaded our tons of stuff!

Beach service is available for about $140 a week. We were lucky and our owner provided this for us. However, the beach attendants who provide the service do not enforce people from setting their own personal chairs in tents right in front of those who have paid. We had a family of about 15 set up 3 beach umbrellas, 8 chairs, and a HUGE tent right in front of us. It was extremely rude of them, since we could not see our own children where we sitting since they blocked our view. When I asked the beach attendant about this, they said that they couldn't do anything about it. If you bring your own things to set up, you are supposed to do it BEHIND those that have paid for beach service.

Other than those 2 little complaints, it was a great place to stay and we plan on returning next year!

We stayed at a studio condo in Sandpiper Cove and enjoyed it very much. I booked our unit through Holiday Isle, I highly recommend using them, they were very nice and helpful!! There were only a couple of thing that could be improved with this unit: blinds were missing from the sliding glass door so we didn't have much privacy and second there wasn't a remote to the TV! Also, the murphy bed was very comfortable. The walk to the beach wasn't bad at all either. As for the staff at the laundry center, they were pretty rude. But the security officers at the gate were really nice. Overall, I would DEFINATELY stay here again.

Room Tip: Studios are conviently across the street from the beach.

Want a relaxing Destin stay in a condo complex that has excellent amenities - check out Sandpiper Cove on Gulf Shore Drive.

Sandpiper is not the typical fancy luxurious high rise but rather one of Destin's oldest complexes who's units are basically two story wooden bugalows.

Sandpipers beach area is probabley the largest of any Destin complex and at it's center is a hut style sandwich shop and bar. Just across the road from Sandpiper's beach and beach area units is Sandpiper's off beach area units that includes 5 swimming pools, very nice tennis courts, a 9 hold Par 3 Pitch & Putt golf course, and one Destin's finest resturants,The Louisianna Lagnaippe, who's deck has a view of Destin Harbor.

All of the above mentioned are in walking distance from any unit inside Sandpiper's gated complex both on beach and off beach side.

Also, Sandpiper is conviently located in the heart of Destin directly across the street from Destin's only major grocery store, Winn Dixie, as well as a Target outlet.

If you're looking for something that's just fancy and extremely expensive Sandpiper is not for you, but if you in search of a bit of the old Destin atmosphere with great amenities and a neat place to stay - check out Sandpiper Cove.

I've owned a small beach unit there since 1995 and wouldn't trade it for a fancy high rise for anything.

This was the second time we stayed at spc & from the previous visit in 2007 to this time in 2012, there was a vast change in the hospitality of the employees to the cleanliness of the resort itself. The front desk was catty and not very informative. There seemed to be a lack of communication with the entire resort. Not once did an employee ask about our stay or if we needed anything. The main office closes at 4:30, and if you need to get fresh towels, dish detergent or t.p. which they are said to provide you better get it before then or you are s.o.l. until the next morning or decide to make a trip to the local walmart. After returning home, 2 weeks later, i received a letter in the mail, not a phone call, saying I was going to be charged almost $200 in additional cleaning costs because i left my condo in poor condition. (I found in very impersonable and unprofessional.) My husband and I have 3 children ages 8, 2, and 1, and kids can be a little messy, but I hardly call the small mess we left behind being in poor condition and valued at a $200 clean up cost. A few dishes left in the sink, (hince the dish detergent being unavailable when we needed it) to the crumbs my little ones left on the area rug (also a vacuum not available.) They also accused me of chipping the crisper drawer to the refrigerator which was broken when we arrived (at our mistake we didn't think to report it and are now being charged for it.) and to either ruining or misplacing the linen the letter wasn't very clear & having to replace a waste basket in the bathroom( don't understand why.). Myself and my family will be vacationing else where next year, somewhere kid friendly and less money hungry.

Thank you again for taking the time to provide your feedback regarding our resort. I would like to apologize on behalf of our resort and our team for any communication concerns that occurred. Our rental office is open 7 days a week at 8:00am for calls and the doors open at 9:00am – 6:00pm and the complimentary linen exchange is also open 7 days a week from 9am-4pm. We certainly regret if there was a misunderstanding about our office hours. I would be happy to discuss any additional details about the extra cleaning charges. Please feel free to contact myself directly via the below details. If you are traveling to Destin again we would love the opportunity to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Thank you,

We had been to Destin several times, but never stayed on the beach. We were referred to Sandpiper Cover by a friend that had stayed there before.

We stayed four nights in unit 1133, a one bedroom right on the beach. We LOVED it! This particular unit also had a sleeper sofa, as well as two bathrooms, a full kitchen and small dining area. There was also a washer and dryer, which we used several times Floors are ceramic tile throughout. We were on the first floor which meant the deck had steps leading directly onto the beach.

We stood on the deck in the mornings, drank our coffee and watched the waves roll in. Because we were so close to the water, while on the beach, we could run back to the condo and eat lunch or use the restroom, etc. When we needed to get out of the sun for a bit, we just walked the short distance to our "home on the beach."

The staff at Sandpiper Cove was very nice and helpful. I called several times prior to our arrival --just to ask questions, confirm services, etc. They were always very pleasant.

We paid for the "beach service," i.e. umbrella and two chairs for three days. (Other reviews mention the beach service, but seem to imply it was included with their condo.) Every morning the guys would put out the chairs/umbrellas and tag them. We always had a front row seat to the most beautiful beach on the Gulf and it was nice being able to get out of the direct sun. Prevented a bad sunburn, which others apparently opted to acquire. Worth the extra expense.

We will be back.

Guest: Arch (Louisiana)
Date of Stay: 04/20/12 We have been going to this area for over 25 years and stayed in many areas & many different units. This one is head & shoulders above most. First ..it is clean, sparkling from the ceramic floors to the granite countertops. The colors are bright and you really feel like you have arrived at the beach. WELL equipped. Any person who cooks will find anything they need. Sit on the balcony and enjoy the evening overlooking the garden. Walk to the end of the condo building and you are at the tennis courts & a pool. Cross the footbridge and you are at Tee box #1. Either walk or drive across the street & you are at the private beach. All this & we did not have to pay beachfront prices but got all the amenities. There is a fabulous restaurant right past the tennis court. The deck of the restaurant is a wonderful place to sip a libation and watch the sunset. And you can walk there in about 3 minutes. We will be going back as soon as we can find time and this unit is open. My husband loved the price for the location. I loved the feeling of luxury. The owners were so helpful in giving us all the information that we needed and were always available by phone if we needed anything. The unit number is 3212. You can book with the owner on VRBO.com #404953

Recommended for:Age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway.
