The good: Large covered pool. Gazebo-enclosed community jacuzzi. Scheduled events for children. Mid-week entertainment for family. Game room. Large movie room. Two small exercise rooms with relatively new exercise equipment (two tread mills, one stationary recumbent bike, two elliptical trainers, one large all-in-one weight training system)...both rooms have TVs and nearby restrooms. Pay laundry room. Motel-sized, air-conditioned "suite" includes: One room with two double beds/vanity area/private bath, toilet, shower/large closet/television/coded safe/clock-radio/telephone/dresser/side table/side chair/two lamps; One room with: sleeper-sofa, side chair, lamp, television, kitchen area with dining table and four chairs and ceiling fan/small microwave/small refrigerator/two-burner cook top/small dishwasher/sink/coffee maker/toaster/blender, cooking pot set, dishes, flatware and cutlery, drinking glasses, cups and goblets, private bath, toilet and shower/vanity area/large closet.
Each room is provided with toilet paper/facial tissue/soap/face & body lotion/shampoo/towels...four each... (bath, washcloth, hand towel) and one bath mat. The kitchen has two dish wash cloths and one dish towel.
The kitchen also includes dishwasher powder packets, dishwashing liquid, scrub cloth, coffee filters, one packet each of regular and decaf ground coffee packets. The refrigerator includes several ice trays and an ice bucket with plastic bag liner. There's a table-top ironing board and steam iron in the kitchen area closet, along with extra pillows, blanket and a manual carpet sweeper.
Also provided is a toilet plunger and each bathroom has a small garbage can and extra garbage bags. The kitchen has a garbage can and extra garbage bags, too. The rooms have a local telephone book, Bible and resort info and instructions, including times for towel trades (a short walk to the office area...bring your soiled towels to trade in for clean ones. This can be done four times a day). Maid service is on Wednesdays.
Both rooms were clean with sparse, but tasteful, furniture and decorations. The indoor-outdoor carpeting in both rooms appeared new. The kitchen area has tile flooring, as do the vanity areas and bathrooms.
No problems with the staff.
Pool and jacuzzi time (9 a.m. - 10 p.m.) strictly enforced.
Voice messages were left on the room phones reminding of planned family events.
Snack and drink machines are located near a couple of the entry ways.
Entry to the covered, indoor rooms, pool and jacuzzi area is by room key...nice security feature.
The bad: Rock-hard beds and pillows. Sleeper-sofa has absolutely no support and could not be used...we had to sleep on sofa as is, which was not a problem (since there was only three of us) but would have been had we been counting on that extra sleeping space the sofa-sleeper would have provided. The refrigerator door did not have a good seal and we had to make sure to shove the door fully shut to ensure it was closed. Hair in microwave (??). One toilet tends to clog easily (hence, the toilet plunger in that room). Walls must be paper-thin because neighbors are easily heard talking, etc., and in our downstairs room we were awakened some mornings by people running on the upstairs walkway. One bathroom and one closet door didn't close properly and the door between the adjoining bedroom and living /kitchen area stuck (seemed warped) and was hard to open/close.
To get to the beach, one must cross a very busy four-lane median highway, walk alongside a large condo and then you're limited to a very small area of beach sandwiched between two large condo areas. You're much better off going to a public beach instead. If you still opt for the tiny beach area, you must wait until you get back to Club Destin to shower off the sand before entering your room (there's a small public shower area).
There is supposed to be wireless Internet service but it was down the entire first day of our visit and went out occasionally afterward.
The game room contained one pay pinball game, one pay driving game, one other pay game and a machine where one puts in money to try and win a stuffed animal with a claw. It also contained a rather old pay pool table which didn't have enough room around it to properly execute some moves and not all the cue sticks had tips and there was no chalk to be found.
The movie room was rather large but movie were first-come, first-served, with a waiting list, and there were a limited number of movies available (some relatively new, some old).
The Ugly: Mold on inside plastic shower liner in one bathroom.
Extra: Tiny putt-putt golf course and shuffle board area. Use by appointment/first-come, first-served.
Also, the "resort" is not really a resort as one would imagine but it is a family-oriented atmosphere with planned activities, including a magic show, for the kids. The rooms appear more motel-like than resort-like but, for us, that wasn't a problem as the size was fine for our needs and the rooms were clean and temperature-controlled. Some rooms, such as ours, are by indoor access only; some rooms are walk-through and some are outdoor access only. I prefer the indoor access rooms as there is the extra added security feature of key-access only to that area.
