“Favorite Resort in Destin/Sandestin”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2011

We've had the opportunity to stay at the Sandestin Hilton a few times over the years, and everytime it is an enjoyable stay. The rooms and outdoor pool areas have been recently renovated.

Stayed off-season in December at a great rate that included breakfast buffet for my wife and I. Loved the breakfast buffet and the heated, indoor pool! Stayed in a great beachfront suite which had a nice bunkbed alcove for our kids which are 10 and 8.

Sandestin resort area is our favorite place to stay in the Destin and Sandestin areas because it is past the busy, touristy areas on Destin but has its own private beach area with chair and umbrella service. The Hilton resort also has a great spa that my wife loves, a gym, a poolside cafe, a small convenience store, casual restaurant, and a fine dining restaurant. There are also a couple of beautiful golf courses, mini golf, shopping and bike rentals. Silver Sands factory outlet and many other good restaurants are only minutes away. Definitely will be coming back.

The wife and I have been visiting Destin for several years now and have stayed across the street in Baytown. Being a HH member I decided to use some points for a nice 4 day weekend for her birthday. Hotel service was seriously lacking, never had a full rack of towels or washcloths for the room, one day we were only provided one towel. Just seems like they nickle and dime you for every last penny. I would have been extremely upset if would have had to pay the $$$ for a room. We had vouchers for the complimentary breakfast (cold). To upgrade to the hot breakfast was another 8$. did this the first morning only to realize that the food was the same stuff offered at any Hampton Inn i've been to, minus the omlet station. Just to warn anyone, the hot breakfast is around $16 a person and the cold breakfast is around $10 per person for cereal and bagels and such. Trolley services to Baytown start at 4pm, when did this crap start?? The new system is not an air conditioned ride, but rather a jeep which pulls open air bench seats behind it. If you want an air conditioned ride it will cost you, kind of sucks to be dressed up for a nice dinner in Baytown, only to sweat like crazy on the way. Not the hotels fault, but you can no longer enjoy a casual stoll through baytown with a drink in hand after 10pm. Once 10pm comes you are no longer allowed outside of and establishment with a drink, you have to stay in the bar and deal with all the people and drunks. If we ever decide to go back to the Sandestin/Baytown area i will be staying elsewhere, I know the Residence across the street is great, as we stayed there during our wedding. PS-Their hot breakfast doesn' cost a dime.

I stayed here while attending a conference. We were definitely off season which was nice as it was pretty quiet. Check in was pleasant but I was not offered any bell service for my bags so I had to lug them up the steep hill to the entrance after parking. My room was easy to locate after waiting on the slow elevator. Room was decent size but he carpet was stained and dingy- not what I've come to expect from Hilton. Balcony was nice but I could tell the either the housekeeping staff had smoked out there or the previous guest did and it was never cleaned up. Room service staff was very pleasant as was my waitress at breakfast. The food was also good. Indoor pool looked nice and the post-fire construction was also going on while I was there but luckily it wasn't loud enough to bother me. All in all, the location is nice , but I'd never pay the full room rate to stay here because it's a bit overpriced for what you get.

Surprised at some of the recent reviews... we had a great stay!
We really enjoyed our 4 night stay. We reserved a Jr. Suite as part of a well priced package (included parking, beach chairs, breakfast)... Room was just right for our family of 4; the kids liked the bunk beds. Internet (not wireless) was free and worked great. We spent most of our time at the beach or pool. It was a quiet room, housekeeping came daily to tidy up. Family was happy with breakfast; to save $$ we did lunches up in room (we did utilize fridge / microwave); Publix, Winn Dixie just a few blocks either direction. We went out to dinner each night for seafood. Lines looked long at most places but we were seated at each place within minutes...go figure.

The beach was perfect! Hot sunny days but clear cool water. We brought beach chairs and paired them with the beach rentals (which are $42 per day, ouch!,) Chairs were sort of close to each other and people will park themselves right in front of you if you don't lay claim... There was a large high-school group trip staying there but the kids were well mannered and were having fun. Great waves, boggie boarding! When it got hot the kids went and swam at the pools. Sometimes we'd order beer but at $5 it was much more affordable to bring your own cooler... Someone came down to the beach to take our drink order but its seemed hit or miss, but the pool/beach bars are close so no problem. The kids loved the ice-cream shop pool-side. Towels for beach / pool supplied... You check out towels poolside in the am and check them back in in the pm...

Staff was very quick to respond and were courteous. I forgot to request "no feather pillows" as wife is allergic; they responded / fixed us up in less than 10 minutes. Only issue we had wasn't hotel fault. smokers in the room above us on the porch would drop ash down on us and wouldn't respond to our request to stop.... one phone call to the front and it was promptly taken care.

My in-laws had a a great time too (room next to us) and said they would love to come back (truly a compliment)... All in all, a very enjoyable stay by all. My thanks to all the Hilton staff for making this an easy stay.

Room Tip: Go to Sandestin web site for packages

Very nice hotel and nice rooms. The bunkbeds for the kids are great. The food and drinks leave alot to be desired. For the resort prices would expect much more. Most of the food had little seasoning or was swimming in sauces. The drinks were flavorless and if a frozen drink had chunks of ice.

Ok, so we have been to this Hilton maybe a dozen times in 15 years, at one time it was a relaxing place to stay with a beautiful beach, things have changed. If loud groups of kids and teenagers, frazzled parents, slow elevators, umbrellas four deep on the beach, pedestrian room service, are deal breakers, go elsewhere. If you do go and have quiet kids, or are a couple, do yourself a favor and get a room in the spa building, much quieter, although no bunk beds if you have multiple kids. Also, the original building at times has an odor, don't know if this from the flooding that occurred last year, but friends on a different floor and our room had unpleasant, unclean odor at times. We asked to moved and by the hardest were on the last day. Spa is just ok, nothing special, my masseur had a rough touch and talked the whole time--not what I was looking for. Not at all sure I'll ever go back. One bright spot was Seagars restaurant, expensive, but worth it to get away from the crowd.

Thank you for your feedback. We’re thankful and honored that you have chosen the Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa as your preferred vacation destination over the past 15 years.

Over the years, the Sandestin area has grown in popularity and been recognized nationwide for its sugar-white sand, emerald-green water and Southern hospitality. For 27 years, the Hilton Sandestin Beach has distinguished itself as the area’s premier full-service beachfront resort hotel, and we’re proud to be a family-friendly destination that provides something for every traveler. We are an especially popular summer vacation destination for families during spring break and during the summer months. Please be advised that our minimum check-in age, however, is 25.

Per the concerns and preferences you express in your review, I’d encourage you to consider visiting us during the less busy times of the year. The fall, for example, is a gorgeous time to visit Northwest Florida, as our weather remains pleasantly warm and our Gulf sunsets are spectacular.

Thank you again for your feedback and continued loyalty. We hope to see you again soon. Please feel free to contact us at 850-267-9500 for any other concerns. Thank you for choosing the Hilton Sandestin Beach.

Sincerely,
