“Old Florida Charm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013 via mobile

We had a nice stay.
Great location could walk anywhere on Atlantic Ave.
You can drive to the hotels private beach. Great pool, chairs service.
The hotel has a fascinating history
The daily breakfast is good and the yoga classes offered were a surprise.

Great Historic Hotel with Florida "flair" and loads of character! Without exception, our guests loved their stay at the Hotel and the reception (at the Hotel's Cabana Club on the beach) was perfect! Service was excellent, most notably for me anyway @ the lobby bar, where Wes recalled my name from a visit in March. ;-)
The hotel is within walking distance of the A1A Hwy / public beach but more importantly is in the heart of the Atlantic Ave area surrounded by great restaurants!

I went back specifically to stay at the colony after having taken a picture of it when we went to a meeting at the Marriott in Delray Beach. It reminded me of some place Hemmingway would have stayed only updated with bright beautiful colors that I adored. The staff was friendly and accommodating; the buffet breakfasts in the lobby were bountiful and allowed for friendly conversation among the guests. The elevator was a relic that they ran for you as a service like in an old time dept. store. The room was clean- you could eat off the floors. They will shuttle you down to their Cabana Club right on the water. We were late one day and they turned around and came back for us. How nice is that? We'll be back.oh, and they have a flamingo guitarist one night a week on the patio steps, just outside their bar.

Room Tip: I like an "orange" floor. (They alternated greens/turquoise and coral/oranges) We could wa...

We were attending a wedding in Delray Beach and after seeing the reviews, thought this would be a neat place to stay. From the original elevator, to the bright colors, clean rooms and breakfast on the front porch, it was wonderful! Saturday night, we came back and relaxed to the sounds of Classical Spanish Guitar. Remember to drive to the beach club, as it's not right across the street.

We live nearby but spent a night here for our anniversary. It is an old historic hotel with lots of charm. The rooms are clean and very nice. Free transport and use of the beach club so you have the best of both worlds. Downtown and the beach. The only problem we have ever had is the bar. We like to go downtown to have a cocktail and the bar and patio are very nice but the service every time we go is very poor. Sometimes they have someone playing music which is very nice but in serious need of good bartender.

From the first time we stayed at this classic Florida hotel, we knew it was where we wanted to have our wedding guests stay. John Creaven is by far one of the most sincere, accommodating, and patient people we dealt with during our wedding process. His staff was phenomenal. Our guests could not stop raving about the hotel. Simply a perfect hotel to set the tone for our wedding.

We stay over the weekend.... It Overall was great! Room with small but fine for the 2 of us. Breakfast in the am was great.. eggs, bacon, oatmeal, juices, toast, fruit ...It was yummy. The only bad part was down at the beach club. It has a nice pool and is very cute. They have chairs set up but they are close to the seagrass. We wanted to be close to the water, when asked about it.. We were told umberlla's are right there in the box ( pointed to them ) i said so you dont mind us taking one down to the beach, He said no help yourself. It was fine becuase we are young, But we had to drag 2 chairs and the umberlla down to the water. ;( Just not full service. We are on vaction. If I wanted to drag my own stuff down to the beach I would have stayed home and drove to the beach myself. FYI... the beach is having some work and there is a HUGE medal pipe going down the beach, so to see in the chairs by the grass you really cant see the waves break. Nothing the hotel can do, but it just meant that we had to carry chiars up and over a hill that was made of sand over teh pipe.

Room Tip: ask for a room away form the street
