“Reflecting on life for 2 - 4 hours”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2011

Morikami is place to slow down, walk, think, and marvel at the universe. It has dozens of areas within the garden that will delight you. Ranging from zen rock gardens, to tipping water features, to giant koi, you will find something to enjoy. Take someone special and remember why they are special to you.

Both inside the museum and out in the gardens, the Japanese culture is reflected in beautiful vignettes arranged with careful attention.

“We wish we had more time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2011

Very nice garden and museums. We loved those bamboo swaying and making noises with breeze. There were many themed gardens along the path. Our favorite spot was an area with man made hill with stream coming down leading to a large pond. There were many fish, birds, and turtles all around the area. There is an excellent museum explaining about daily life style of Japan. In front of the museum was area with extensive corrections of Bonsais. We happened to be at the time of tea ceremony practice when we were in the museum in the entrance building and we could see them practicing through a glass door. The restaurant food was good but not authentic. The restaurant patio overlooking two lakes are very nice relaxing place after a nice walk through the garden. We had a wonderful time and it was a good value for the money.

“Winding paths along pine & bamboo forests”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2011

Truly a gem - you will be rejuvenated by your walk through a little less than a mile of serpentine paths which surround a large pond. The Japanese Gardens are a place to completely unwind and enjoy beautiful vistas, quiet corners, and listen to the bamboo trees knock against each other in the rustling wind. My 4 year old daughter also enjoyed it very much, especially the various waterfalls, as well as the sight of fish in the pond and lots of turtles sunbathing. We also saw a blue heron. The paths are all smooth gravel stones and completely accessible. There were several people in wheelchairs fully enjoying the Gardens. There were lots of families with strollers (but it may get tiring to push a stroller along loose gravel for 2 hours.)

The parking lot was packed and we went in high season, but we never felt crowded in the Gardens as it is a very large property. On busy days, expect to wait at least 20mins. for a table at the restaurant.
