“Don't bother unless you're looking for a run-of-the-mill diner”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

Cafe de France is now Carpe Diem with a completely new menu. There are a few French-bistro-type choices but most are typical diner items, e.g., coconut shrimp, burger, crab cake. Everything we had was run-of-the-mill. Bread was reheated and partially still frozen. Servers were pleasant but not attentive. Not a place to go back to.

“Fine Dining in Delray Beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013

The Cafe de France at 110 Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach has indoor/outdoor seating, and serves lunch and dinner. The menus are very similar, and the dinner prices were a bit higher. The choices were very 'continental.' We had lunch outdoors on the veranda-portico, great for watching the people who stroll Atlantic Avenue, or 'being seen'! The service was prompt; the waiter was very solicitous and helpful in describing menu items. The variety of salads was excellent, as well as the sandwich options. Portion sizes were quite satisfactory.

Cafe de France has a pris-fixe menu daily from 4:30 - 6:15 PM, and Sunday from noon to 6:15 PM.

The interior decor is very elegant with high-back cushioned seats, and very decorative candelabras.

Cafe de France is in the process of rebranding itself as Carpe Diem ['Seize the day'], and can be reached at 110CarpDiem.com.

“Mediocre”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013 via mobile

My expectation of delray restaurants is low. Sysco everywhere. And my expectation of cafe de France was equally low. And it met my expectation. Barely.

Service was okay. Nothing special. Wine list is typically Floridian, which is to say bad. Mostly filled with low rent examples from French regions. There was, however, a most excellent chateauneuf which I knew and we ordered. Yum.

I had the lamb shank. It didn't taste very lamb-ey. In fact, it really lacked flavor. You have to work hard to have a shank lack flavor.

They note on the sign that they have "restaurant tradition since 1820." Really, what the heck does that mean? Place has been serving crappy fare for only 4 years. Just because France has had restaurants since the revolution and they have France in their name doesn't seem to give them the right to make that claim. It's a vacuous claim anyway, and you'd have to be dim to have it influence your decision.

Go or don't go, but don't expect much. Then again, there doesn't seem to be much in Delray.

“If you are not concerned about great food, Carpe Diem (formerly Cafe de France) is the place.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

We had a friends get together and were looking for a great place to enjoy a meal for 8 of us. Having eaten at Carpe Diem some time ago I thought that this restaurant was a perfect establishment. After not getting a reserved table for eight outside centrally located, we were seated at a wonderful table inside. The charm of the restaurant decor is certainly worth noting. The service was great and worthy of recognition. Four of us had the seafood crepes, which were heavy and only included fish and not a mixture of fish, scallops, shrimp, crab meat and some lobster. The lobster sauce had little taste and was also loaded with flower to make it thicker. This is perhaps the restaurants decision to establish and maintain a low price point. Another friend had the lamb chops which were completely overdone.I want to emphasize that I was not expecting a high Michelin starred restaurant such as LeBernadin in New York City, whcih was recently rated # 1 in the United States, but a quality bistro with excellent French food. I would highly suggest that the quality of food be improved and perhaps this would mean some higher prices, which I have no problem with.
In summary, CARPE DIEM nees some work before I would return.

“A farce as a French restaurant”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

The food service and atmosphere were all dreadful. We had a reservation which meant little since we were kept waiting too long. Once we got the food it was tasteless and cold. The waiter apologized and offered us a glass of wine but nothing could make up for the disappointment and embarrassment since we had chosen it and brought friends
