“just so so”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2014

We had a late breakfast here early April on a Tuesday. The wait was less than 1/2 hour which was shorter than I thought it might be. If you do have to wait you can see the visitor center and look at some of the history of the mill and the area. Their pancakes are not my favorite. I do not particularly like the taste of the batter on the regular pancakes. The whole grain cakes tasted better to me. Our waitress forgot the meat we had ordered and was gone for a long time. She finally came back and we reminded her. She did bring it but it had been sitting for a while because it was mostly cold. I think the novelty of eating here with friends or family and cooking your own cakes at the table is the main draw of this restaurant. I absolutely LOVE this park and the massive Live Oak Trees that cover the area. Don't forget to walk back on the trail a short distance and visit the grand old Cypress Tree that survived the loggers so many years ago. Deleon Spring is a great place to visit so put it on your list of things to do in Central Florida.

“Vegan Pancakes in a State Park”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2014

In a recent visit to Deleon Springs State Park, I was surprised when I looked at the menu at the Old Spanish Sugar Mill in the park that they had food that was appropriate for someone following a whole food, plant-based diet -- vegan pancakes. It was a lot of fun to cook your own pancakes at the table. We even had fresh blueberries and pecans on our pancakes and there was even mollasses as a topping. A vegan sausage and a veggie burger was also on the menu. This restaurant is inside of an old Sugar Mill and on the sight of an old amusement park. If you stop at the restaurant don't miss a chance to swim in the spring that's always 72 degrees and also visit the beautiful trails. A great place to visit for the whole family.

“Ok if you have lots of time to wait!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2014

We had heard about the Spanish Sugar Mill restaurant where you make your own pancakes. We also had heard that there are waits of over two hours on the weekend. So we decided to go on a Wednesday that was cold. We still had a 2 1/2 hour wait! It seemed that the biggest problem was that they only except reservations for groups over ten. This seems to be an unfair way of running the place. Nothing like waiting for a group of 18 that goes right in!
The pancakes were just ok. Kind of on the thin side.
The walk up line was open for things like coffee, drinks and snacks. But then they only had one person working it. She would take an order, then go make it which included breakfast sandwiches which took awhile. This line also took money for the boat ride, which slowed it down even more.
I can say I went to this restaurant once, but have no need to go back. The IHop five miles down the roadis quicker and has a better selection!

“A fun place to have breakfast for lunch!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2014

The unique building, really an old mill, was nicely renovated into a pleasant, airy restaurant. You can't beat the freshness of cooking pancakes right in front of yourself. Yummy!

“love the pancakes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2014

There is always a wait for a reason...it's yummy and how often can you say you ate in a sugar mill? Our family of four had all you can eat pancakes, 4 waters, 2 sides of bacon, and a side of chocolate chips for about $32 (includes automatic 18% gratuity). Get here early or expect to wait.
