“Never Again”

Perry's Ocean Edge Resort

Okay, where do I begin? This hotel is disgustingly overpriced for what room we were given. The lady at the concierge gave us a map and Room 15. We had to drive down the street to a section of pink, ground-level apartments that (what seems to me) were recently acquired by this 'resort'.

The room had tile floors, covered in sand. It was very old, as was the rest of the hotel. The vents were rusty and probably blowing out disease-carrying spores of apocalyptic proportion. Our room was located right next to the noisy highway, so sleeping in this room would probably require you being in a catatonic state. Parking was also a nightmare, and I cannot begin to describe the cryptic layout of the hotel. Do not book at this hotel if you are given a lower-number room.

Probably at some point in its existence was the place to stay. It is extremely clean and sand free for a beach front resort. The resort staff was very helpful and friendly during our stay. We had a kitchenette in our room and that made our stay easier. There is also free internet access.

The suites were small as suites go but enough room for 6-8 people to visit. There was no real room to eat but an outside table and chair set took care of that.

We had a suite in the garden area that overlooked the indoor pool. I is heated and well maintained. There is a unique handicap access to the pool.

There is a Winn Dixie Grocery store across the street as well as an IHOP. If you come for the beach and beach activities, then this is a great place. There is not much else, but who goes to the beach for non-beach activities?

“Perry's was great for our family!!”

Perry's Ocean Edge Resort

Jul 21, 2008

Booked last fall for 3 nights over the July 4 weekend/race for a family celebration. Had 3 oceanfront rooms with balconies, all together with two connecting, on 5th floor of South Tower. Great family place. Clean rooms, well-equipped kitchens, grounds immaculate, nice staff, and easy access to the beach. Gorgeous views from our balcony, especially the sunrise! Loved the homemade donuts and coffee/juice in the mornings. We certainly would stay there again and apparently many families come each year as they were booking for 2009 at checkout.

Just got back. Read other folks' reviews and I've got to say that you people are really wound up in your cars. Parking is tight at many properties on the beach. Some of Perry's parking is certainly odd with their little garages. I think on holiday weekends they have a 1 car per room policy with additional cars per room required to park across the street in the overflow parking. I'm sure you'll manage. If you're there to hit the beach, then you won't be moving your car much anyway. Many families take advantage of the in-room kitchens and patio grills, leaving the property to get more groceries. We just walked across the street to get our munchies at the grocery, but then we only stayed the weekend. We saw lots of coolers and picnics going on in the patio area. Burgers on the grills smelled good. We ordered pizza and had it delivered near the pool area. Those pizza delivery folks were busy Saturday night, but we got our Stavros pizza in 20 minutes. They are just a block away.

Several other reviews commented on the great staff. They have a lot of staff and they were all so nice and working hard. They even have people doing activities for kids, games, bingo, etc. My kids loved the shuffleboard.

Note that you can get a gate key for beach access to use before you check in if your room isn't ready yet. It's great to head straight to the hotel in the morning and enjoy the beach for the day even before getting into your room.

    • Liked — The patio has lots of tables in a nice grassy area, nice pool decks, and several areas for play - shuffleboard, putting green, basketball.
    • Disliked — Activity schedule was not on display in enough places.

“GREAT”

Perry's Ocean Edge Resort

The rooms were okay and clean. Over all the entire resort could use a new paint job with more modern colors. The property is very clean. Parking is a problem that needs consideration. Vans and SUV's can make it in and out in the parking ramp if you can make a 30 point turn. The beach is not accessable from the resort at all for persons with disabilites. You have to drive to a ramp to get there with a wheel chair. How hard would it be to put in a ramp.
