“Horrific Experience/ s_x toys found in the bathroom!”

First, I'd like to say that the desk staff at the Hawaiian Inn were all very nice and personable. Although, full of excuses, the manager's were pretty nice as well. Perhaps, the main problem here is housekeeping and a non-enforced no smoking policy. The first room they put us in was smokey, the door to the balcony was broken, there were dead or dying roaches in the room and a possibly used giant dildo (no, this is not a joke) under the bathroom sink. Instead of calling, I went to the front desk. Again, the ladies there were very nice, called a couple of managers and moved us to a different room. They upgraded us to a two bedroom suite. Although the room itself was nicely decorated it was also quite dirty. The floors turned your feet black if you walked on them without shoes. The master bedroom was so smelly (cigarette smoke) that we couldn't even use it. Our entire family slept in the extra bedroom. Fortunately, we had our own pillows. The hotel's pillow cases had makeup on them, the sheets were covered in hair (that wasn't ours). Upon checkout the next day, I asked to see a manager. I had to wait about 10-15 minutes, when he appeared (from behind the front desk!!! I had to wait and he was there the entire time!) I showed him the yucky pillow cases, a washcloth turned black from a swipe on the dirty floor and some of the hair off the sheets. He just shrugged and said he'd let housekeeping know about it. He claimed there was nothing to do about the smoking in a non-smoking facility. I can say that I would NEVER recommend the Hawaiian Inn to anyone. We used to stay there as kids every year 25+ years ago. It was a great place back then. I hope someone can come in and clean the place up...I imagine it could be really nice if they just tried.

“Not a hotel you write home about”

My wife and I had high hopes for a nice Labor Day weekend at the beach. Unforunately we were very disappointed.

We were expecting a lot more from the hype at the hotel web site. What we found was an old hotel past it's prime that was filthy, smelled like old carpet everywhere and certainly does not deserve a 3-star rating from anyone.

Upon check-in, we were told our room was ready but the card machine was not working, so we had to wait for a manager to use a house key to let us in and then were only able to get back in our room with the assistance of the manager's house key.

While trying to find an exit we came across several maintenance workers who had the main A/C system torn apart and were working on fixing that while a huge flood of water covered the hallway.

Our room was not well cleaned. Furniture and bedding was extremely used and suspect. We think bedbugs or fleas attacked us the short time we were there as the scratching started as soon we got into bed.

All rooms face the pool / ocean, which is a plus; however, some rooms on the ends have direct views into adjoining rooms. The view is nice, but the noise from the pool and hot tubs after midnight did not make for a pleasant evening.

The room next door to us was occupied by at least 3 young couples who were back and forth all evening slamming doors and partying into the wee hours. Several calls to the front desk were made and acknowledged and attempts were made to contact the noisy room, but to no avail.

Quite frankly, we felt threatened and there appeared to be no security. Only a lady at the front desk, who acknowledged she had not had any success contacting the occupants of the adjacent room.

Finally around 1:00 A.M. we had had enough and decided we could no longer stay the night. We went to check out. The lady at the front desk was very apologetic and agreed to credit the remainder of our stay.

Fortunately for us, we only lived an hour drive from the hotel and had the option to return home. However, it made for a long night; a ruined weekend at the beach and something we now have to review in an unfavorable light.

Never again will we visit the Hawaiin Inn, but will make sure we warn our friends and family know about it.

  • Liked — It had a partial ocean view
  • Disliked — Old facilities; unclean rooms; noisy neighbors; late night noise

“Great Time”

This was our second stay for our anniversary. I have read some of the other reviews and I'm am not sure what they are looking for. We did not stay at a condo but just booked online and everything was great. Clean, staff was friendly. Nice spot on the beach and a great view. Have stayed at the Hilton and it's nice but for the money the Hawaiian Inn was great in our book. We will be back next year.

“Do Not bring kids”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2007

If you are in a Fraternity and you plan to spend your spring break here, I think you might like this place. If you have kids, please, please, please do not stay here. First: the railings are not up to code and your toddler can fall through the railings. Second: the stairwells are not up to code and your little one can fall straight through to the first floor (from the fourth floor). Third: the keys were de-magnetized at every use. The problem is so bad that most of the people at the front desk were complaining about their keys. I asked to have my keys reset at least five times, yet the management never asked to see my ID once! I could have been a mass murderer. Finally, due to fear of theft, the chairs and table on the balcony were locked with a cable. Thus, you could not move them, and my kids tripped on the cable three times. This is a hotel that is designed for drunks and spring breakers. This is not a family hotel, and I feel so strongly that this place is dangerous for kids that this is the first time that I ever filled out a review on travel advisor. I am doing this for the benefit of your children.
