“Great for breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2012 via mobile

We came to this restaurant tucked in corner of Bellair Mall near Bealls Beachside Dept Store and it was great. Both of us had 2 eggs with bacon (4 strips) and toast. I also had side order gravy and biscuit very very good food. Place isn't fancy but it's clean and delicious and it didn't break the bank total bill was only 14.90 for two large meals. Will return again!

“Chef Adam rules!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2012 via mobile

Bertie's has been an institution and one of my favorite restaurants for almost 40 years. It has always had the world's greatest hash browns, and still does. It survived the move from Main Street and the heart (belly?) of Bike Week to Bellair Plaza (a shopping center that was the bee's knees when it opened in 1960). The food continued to be excellent, and Ronnie's pies were and are fabulous. Could it survive new ownership in the 21st century? Yes!
When Chef Adam and his family took over, he kept every item on the menu that had made Bertie's a mainstay for decades, and gradually added true gourmet treats. The idea of ordering a Caesar salad at what had always been basically a greasy spoon diner seemed ludicrous -- until I tried it. When a special-diet diner asked if the potato pancakes (served with apple sauce and sour cream) contained an allergen, the answer was a question -- Do you have time to wait for Chef Adam to make a batch without the offensive ingredient from scratch?
The wait staff continues to be top notch. It doesn't take too many visits before the day shift folks know what your "usual" is. (But you shouldn't stick with just one favorite. Check the board for the day's omelet, and be sure to try the breakfast burrito. The meat loaf is great, as is the chili.) It's worth it to ask your server what looks good the day you're there.
The evening dinners (varying nights) are exquisite. Ask for each week's menu to be e-mailed to you, and rest assured that the promise of each amazing description will be fulfilled. If you forget to B.Y.O.B., there's a more-than-decent wine selection at the Publix supermarket right there.

“It's a diner”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2012

We stopped for breakfast, and it was good.

Not a lot to say,but I was a bit surprised at how grimy it was considering the strip mall it's in didn't appear to be that old.

“Best darn biscuits & gravy... Ever and terrific service to boot!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2012

This is a tiny place so expect a very short wait to sit... It is family owned, been in Daytona for decades and I found it using UrbanSpoon... It is VERY much worth a visit. Reasonably priced menu and terrific food. All four of us were amazed by the taste. We had breakfast, but I imagine lunch is just as excellent.
Don't miss it!!

“Where The Locals Go, Over and Over and Over!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2012

If you want a great local breakfast this is your place. My partner and I go every year when we're in town for the NAWCC convention. It's only for four days but if we lived here we'd be there every day. Go you won't be sorry!!
