“Nothing Special, just OK!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2011

The resort of Daytona looks a little run down now and past its best. It has clearly been hit by the hard times as so many proerties are boarded up, for sale, or just closed down. There are some decent restaurants, all of which seem busy so it would be advisable to book.

The hotel itself is well situated on the north of Atlantic Drive and we had a family room which overlooked the sea and the fantastic beach, The room was large and airy, modern and well equipped. The only issue we had was that there was a fridge freezer in the room - the world's noisiest fridge freezer which woke you up through the night when it came on!

The check in was a pain - we arrived early, ahead of the 4pm check in and they didnt seem bothered about trying to help and get us in early and I go the impression they deliberately made us wait until 3.59pm before allocating us a room.

The restaurant is totally dead at night - they never even asked at check in if we wanted dinner so we went to a local restaurant. When we retuned there were 2 people in the restaurant and no one at the bar! The buffet breakfast was excellent though, and great value.

Joe, the waiter/porter was a real ambassador for the hotel - full marks to him.

I've stayed in better places, and in much worse so I'm pretty neutral on this one - good room but commercailly they miss out by not selling their restaurant services

We use a travel club, and stayed at the DBR in the Club-managed condo. Since DBR doesn't maintain the room, won't comment beyond saying that it must be in the older part of the hotel - old carpet, musty smell, etc. The amenities are nice. We had booked two weeks, and while we didn't find the resort to be anything special had no real problems until Saturday night, when we and our three small children were kept awake until midnight by loud, pounding music. So sorry, nothing to be done, a wedding party has booked the space. Many apologies from the day manager the next morning. So, Sunday was pretty much a waste as we all napped all day to recover from our late night. Sunday night, we arrived back from visiting family only to find the windows in our room vibrating - according to the front desk, a "band" was doing a sound check for a concert to be held Monday evening. Again, sorry, but they paid for the space. Well, so did we, and we expect to be able to sleep in our hotel room! Oh, yes, they'll be gone by 10:00 pm (or 11:30) but they'll be back tomorrow for the concert. Well, I can't speak to what happened Monday night because our vacation club moved us to a smaller, quieter, more family friendly hotel. DBR's staff were all very polite and apologetic, but unable to turn down the volume. So if late nights are for you, so is DBR. But if you want to sleep, you may want to look around a bit more.

Room Tip: According to the manager, the noise from the wedding brought complaints from as high up as the fifth...

We had a condo rented by owner. It was cheaper than what we would have paid if we rented from the hotel. The staff was very helpful and nice. The room was big and clean and had a small balcony where you can enjoy the view of the ocean. The beach was clean and the sand was wonderfully soft. We used the swimming pool and enjoyed it. You cannot go mych better than this for the price.

Wonderful stay. 5 nights in an ocean front room with private balcony. Booked through hotwire, not knowing where we'd be staying until all was paid for. $80 a night! Originally was booked into river view room, but spoke with Michael, the front desk manager. In person. Told him it was a special occasion and could he upgrade us? Sometimes ya just gotta ask! He was so amazing and put us in the ocean front with no extra charge!! We like Mike! Room was great! Big king bed, full size fridge, also microwave and flat top two burner stove. Pots, dishes, utensils and automatic ice-maker in freezer made for a great stay. My only negative is under the shelf lip of the tub needs to be cleaned better. We were in room 548 which is on the 5th floor with big private balcony overlooking one of 4 pools, the ocean, the nightly firepit. Just breathtaking! Got a couples massage at the spa first night! Best massage ever!!!!! Do it!!! Thanks to all the staff! Ps. Parking garage attached to resort allowed super convenient entry to our floor at all times and it was free!! Free wi-fi was pretty good, though spotty on occasion. Overall....A+!!

We stayed for a week in mid July 2011. The room was spacious and had great views of the beach and pool area. However, it was not very clean, had a musty smell, furniture was old and worn, and maids came very late in the day (about 4PM) and rarely cleaned the bathroom, vacuumed, or emptied the trash cans. Several times we had to ask for a spare roll of toilet paper. Also, do not get a room near the elevators or laundry rooms. It was so noisy at night, loud talking and yelling in the halls, and laundry room doors slamming shut, that is was hard to fall asleep. The pools and hot tubs were nice - but the pool was a little dirty with hair and suntan lotion floating in the water. The pool bar was convenient, but the drinks were pricey. Hotel location was good - only a few miles from the boardwalk area and many good restaurants. Overall, not as clean and nice as we expected for a major resort and conference center hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms away from elevators and laundry rooms (very noisy)
